Animal hair in the seats

How do you guys get animal hair out of the seats? I had a car yesterday that had an incredible amount of white hairs all over the black cloth seats. My vacuum was no match for most of the hair, and after cleaning the seats and vacuuming again, I still saw most of it in the fabric. I used this sticky roll thing that is meant to pull lint off of clothes but that only got a little bit of the remaining hair out.

What's the secret to hair removal?

try a damp MF or terry towel. Or you can try things like the pet hair tool from Topoftheline.com it looks like a little rubber squeege(sp?) , dont know if it works or not but it is a thought.

I used a damp MF to wipe the seats after cleaning them. It picked up a little, but only made a small dent in the amount of hair left in the fabric.

That waxstation.com store that sells the Mother's claybars also sells an upholstery mitt that says it removes pet hair... Just noticed it when I was looking at the clay.

I guess I'll be ordering a few things from WaxStation now. I just sent my orders from the Autopia store and AutoGeek. Oh well, $80 down, ~$30 to go...

It might sound a little tedious, but I use a small set forceps and or a needle nose plier to remove any stubborn particulates, that is, after shampoo, vacuum, compressed air, some #2020 white tape, sticky side out, wrapped around my hand. I have this ultra clean carpet fetish that i'm sure will be the death of me. lol

Here is a method posted by Ketch for carpet .. might help on seats too

Brush the carpet in one direction, then spray with an anti static spray, like women use for their hose/skirts, let set a minute and vacuum in the same direction you brushed.

This breaks the static attraction, you may have to repeat the process a couple of times.

I have a car that has dog hair in the head liner. It won't come out no matter what! Replacing it is about $700 on an Infinity G5...:scared

Good topic, I have a beetle this coming weekend with black cloth interior and lots of dog hair. I hace one of those rubber brush / squeegee things. We use it on the couchs, etc seems to work well. I guess Ill try it on the car and report back.

The key is brushing while you are vacuuming. It's not easy and you may have to spend some time going over the same area a few times, but it works.

I recently detailed a Ford Expedition with plenty of dog hair and actually had to turn off the vacuum for awhile because I though it might over-heat. I probably spent well over an hour just revacuuming everything in order to get out all of the dog hair. Hey, it's a good idea to make sure you thoroughly clean your vacuum filter after each heavy dog hair vacuum useage.

You will be suprised how well dish washing rubber gloves work. Put on a pair and wipe your hand across the seat and because of the stickiness of the glove the hair will roll into a line that you can then roll up into a ball and remove. Really anything of that type of sticky rubber works well.

I have found that a slightly dampened palm and hand dragged hard down the fabric several times will pull up a lot of the dog hair. At least, this works in my subaru and acura in getting rid of hair from my black lab.

That's the hair I'm talkin bout! The ones stuck in... I have yet to find anything that will get those buggers out.

Ive been using a lint roller and a vacuum for the top stuff, and a stiff brush for the stuff stuck under that. Just be careful with the stiff brush though. Its not sutibale for certain fabrics.

That duct tape idea sounds good too.. its probably a lot stronger than a lint roller.

I have one of those 'velcro' dog hair mitts and they work well for the surface hair , but you still have to pick out the embeded hairs.I learned my lesson a long time ago , about letting the customer know about the extra time needed to remove most dog hair.

I usually just break out the duct tape! :D

Hehe, even has practical uses for detailing. :up

I seriously considered using duct tape. The owner told me that he wasn't really concerned with the hair though, so I just took out most of it, and took more time work on the exterior.

Yea, I did the whole interior of and Expedition earlier this year with duct tape because the owner liked to haul around her two labs with her. I used probably 1/4 of the roll, but the interior was spotless and I know of no other way to achieve those results in the time it took... :nixweiss
