Alternatives to M105....sooo sick if the mess is creates

I think I've had my last bout with M105. I love the cut, and I love that it finishes out so well, but its not worth it. Even with taping everything up, it still creates a royal mess. I can't seem to find a good medium between staying wet enough to keep the rotary happy to dry enough not to sling. Even if I somehow managed to stay in that sweet spot, the dust afterwards is just a pain in the ***. Everytime I use this stuff I lose 30-60 minutes in getting the crap it throws/dusts/etc off the car. :angry

Do you think you would gain 30-60 min with a product that doesn't cut as well or finish as well? I am not trying to sound pedantic; I've moaned about M105's dust too, but it's cut:finish ratio can't be beat, ime, so the dust is worth it.

Also, fwiw, I don't find the dust to be a whole lot worse than most heavy cutting compounds. How are you using it?

Have you tried Optimum Spray Compound, no dust.

If you prime your pad and there's no sling. Son't lay a bead on the car. Start with higher speed initially for quick cutting and then lower it for refinement. I don't get any sling that way and much less dust.

So the way I use it is prime my pad with a very light bit of QD then apply about 2 quarter size blobs on the pad. Then I put the pad down on the paint, move it around then start at 1 and work up to speed using the rotary. I've noticed now that its hotter outside, its even less friendly to work with. The window of "behaving" is so narrow. Maybe I need to lower my speed when its hot out. It seems just fine on the PC, but then again the temps are way lower.

I do like that it finishes out so well, but really, I don't see just finishing with it, so a two step is a given, so that isn't really that much of a benefit. Oh well, I'm glad I'm not alone in my frustrations. I think the biggest rub for me is how the dust gets everywhere, into places that are a bear to clean. Its almost to the point where i need to powerwash after 105.

Heh heh, I think M105 dusts a lot less than some other stuff I've used, never really noticed it being a huge issue. But I do wonder how the Optimum spray compound compares

I prime my complete pad initially and then spu/blow and reapply to the pad the same way. If the product is smeared into the pad it won't sling and dust is very minimal. With M105 you want to wipe the residue after each panel. If it dries it can take alot more effort to remove.

How many pads are you guys using on an average sized sedan? I'm using 3-4 per pass with 105.

Optimum Hyper Compound spray has a nice cut, but dust just slightly. Haven't used it enough to determine a bigger picture, I want to use it on several types of cars before I go on hyping a product without knowing its versatility.

Usually 3-4 I'd say which is about 1/2 as many than via DA. Keep them primed and clean and it will help.

I tried Hyper Spray Compound this weekend with a PFW pad on the rotary. Only made a few passes but didn't notice any dust. It definitely has less cut than M105 though.

I pretty much use System 51 cutting polish for most work by rotary. Sling isn't a big deal as it has a water base, so cleanup is easy. When I use a DA I use Menzerna SIP.

I think I'm going to give the OPT Hyper Compound a try. Even if it takes 2-3 passes where 105 took 1-2, I'll be happy.

I was just complaining about this today! Does it cut and finish well...yes, of course. But, the dusting and clean up is ridiculous. I hate how fast this crap dries. I'm still a noob with the rotary, but when I was using other stuff on the PC, my life was less stressful (I'm like a ticking time bomb with stress, I rage pretty easily. Detailing is my outlet, but using M105 is instant brain aneurysm for me.) I just wish the PC didn't take so long and vibrate my hands do to death!

After my bottle of M105 is up, I'm going back to multiple step processes. Even if it takes more time, I like having something that's easier to clean up after. Love M105, but...eh, over it. I popped in a detailer supply place the other day randomly and saw they carry HD Uno...might give that stuff a try.

Weren't some guys on here using M34 when using M105? Can't remember for sure, but I thought some were spraying it on the panel after they polished to help wipe the 105 away.

Personally I don't have issues like I did when I first started using it. Maybe I am just used to it by now or have it figured out. I don't get sling or dust much. When it starts to dust more than normal I change pads or it's because I polished too long.

I dont have any problems with the M105 drying fast on me any more, I just work 1'x1' or 2'x2' and i can work it all the way down and get an amazing finish. there is a lot of dust everywhere but it just blows off at the end. When I first used it, it did dry up. but now it doesn't. It does have a weird learning curve.
