All British & Eurpoean Car Day (Lots of Pictures)

I went to the All British & European Car Show in Dallas today. It is an annual charity event. This is the second year I’ve gone and volunteered to help with the event as well.

The weather could not have been better! It was sunny and in the 70's.

The show has mostly MG’s and Jaguars. Some really vintage show cars and a lot of daily or weekend drivers. What absolutely amazes me is the lack of good detailing on these cars. With the full sun out there are swirls galore and, dirty wheels, and generally not well maintained exteriors. The pictures make the cars look clean, but up close is a different story.

I asked a few people what products the used and they seemed to have no clue. One lady complained to me how her black car (a Jaguar) attracted so much dust. This being an outdoor event there was plenty of dust on the cars. But I asked her what wax she used. She said “Oh, I use a polish because a friend who is in the Rolls Royce club says wax removes tiny bits of your paint so he told me to use a polish (she didn’t recall the name). She said “If it’s good enough for a Rolls…” I kept my mouth shut and walked on to look at more cars.

Here are some pictures of the more unique cars there.

Our MGB spent the weekend on jack stands so I could do a lot of maintenance work to it. The oil was changed. I switched the transmission over to Red Line MTL. I took a grease gun to it for the first time in the seven years I've been caring for the car. I also flushed and replaced the brake fluid with some Valvoline synthetic stuff. Finally, I installed a relay kit to boost the output of the stock headlights.

From what I've seen, many British car owners are not that into the detailing aspect. They see their cars are drivers not not show cars. So you will see dirty wheels, swirls and the like. It's just a different mindset.

I was thinking that maybe they are into fixing up the mechanical bits to keep them running more than looking good.
