Alfa Romeo 8C Spider - Is this a joke?

This has got to be the most over rated, underpowered $300,000 car I've ever seen. 444 HP ~ 3700 lbs ~ 4.4 0-60 ~ 12.9 1/4 mile. Where's the value(and balls)? Sorry to say, but I'd rather have a BMW Z4 M and pocket $200K+.

100% agree. It has a Maserati V8, and the rear styling of a lotus Elise. I cant imagine paying that for that car. For $300k in the car world I would go with either a 599 or LP640..

Have to disagree with you guys on this one...How does a Z4M even compare to this car?? I guess if you're talking 0-60 times, then sure. But the 8C isn't about that; it's arguably one of the most beautiful cars to hit the streets in the US. And with less than 85 (Yes, eighty-five) cars headed to the US, you won't likely be bumping into another 8C on your way to the grocery store (Like a Z4).

The 4.7L is from the Maserati cars, but it was developed by Ferrari and is closely related to the 4.3 in the F430; the motor is pure Ferrari with Alfa heads. The car also won't cost $300k, more like $225k. I know, still very expensive; but when buying this type of car, you're looking at exclusivity, craftsmanship, and all around ability.

It's not the fastest car, but it doesn't have to be, it more than makes up for it in styling, driving feel, cache and exclusivity. And since when is a zero-sixty time of less than 4.5 seconds not ballsy?? This car is packed with tech that no Z4 can touch. Frankly, that's an apples to oranges comparison.

Have you looked at it? The car is a perfect example of form before function. It's not supposed to be fast or pull elevinty billion Gs in a corner. It is supposed to be dramatic. And it is. Quick (for a car of that magnitude) no, but by god it is pretty.

I going to have to agree with slicknickis3 on this. Alfa's are all about the driving experience and the 8C Spider is their halo car. It isn't about being the fastest, it is rather enjoying a truly stylish automobile. (as Jeremy Clarkson once said," everyone should own an Alfa just once...) Yes this is expensive but really no different than the owner of an Enzo that commissioned Pinnifarina to design a 1 off version. (did it make the Enzo go faster, nope just more exclusive).

Ok, get a Z4 AND a F-430 and you'll still have some money to play around with.

No you can't. A Z4M starts at 50k. And you can't even TOUCH an F430 without 250k in hand... and that's for a "stripped out" model.

well said, and I don't think the customer that it is aimed at price shops. Or for that matter shops by numbers

you can actually pick up a low mileage(1k)f430 for as little as 150k if you shop carefully...u can even get a spyder for less than 200k....besides the f430 is old news now...

I think I'd just get an Audi R8 V10 and call it a day. If I was looking for that kind of car.

Ferrari(and Lambo) is very lucky that people don't look at the R8 like they do your average Ferrari. Because if they did, Audi would be beating them down hard.

Or if i really wanted to spend $300k, I'd have a used Carrera GT. The sound that thing makes is like... wow...

Another thing that makes the price ridiculous is that other Alfas really are quite mainstream, it's no luxury brand..I think of them as Fiats with nicer looking bodies and a bit more sporty..

Alfas haven't been sold here in years, so you'll find us Septics with a little different perspective.

I love the design, but I'd spend my money elsewhere.
