AJ on top of DG #105 & AW

I got a sample of AJ last night and wanted to see how it looked on my Tundra - http://autopia.org/forum/car-detailing/79494-first-real-detail.html?highlight=mose

So I did a quick DP 4n1 wash and applied the AJ. I put on VERY thin coats by hand and waited about a 1/2 an hour for it to haze over. I came out to remove it and had a hell of a time getting it off the paint! I wiped as hard as I could but it would still leave lines of wax on the paint. Being a week out from gall bladder surgery I was not really wanting to have to exert a lot of energy on this so I ended up using Megs QD to remove it.

The truck looks good but I don't really see enough of a difference to switch from DG. Maybe it doesn't mix well with DG. Maybe I need to start with a perfectly clean surface to see a difference. I have heard very good things about AJ and have to believe that it's something in my process that is the problem.

I also put Natty's Blue on half the hood just to see if I could see a difference....nope. I am think I am pretty much grasping at straws now and just need to start over. The truck still looks great but I also noticed something else.

The Tundra was the first detail I had ever done and I did it by hand before I bought my PC. When I run my hand over the paint it feels very gritty and definetly needs to be detailed via PC. My process has changed tremendously since I first started and I know that's why I see such a difference in the truck. I still get comments on the truck and can't wait to see what people say when I actually detail it with a PC.

AJ is a real good lsp and I use it quite a bit. it is best to use prime or Prime strong before the AJ to clean the paint. AJ is suppose to be used in this combo. you can also use AIO so it will have something to bond to. second the AJ is a wipe on and wipe off product, do not let it sit on your paint. I use a MF applicator pad and use a drop or two per panel. then wiped the AJ on in a back and forth motion until it dissapears. then wipe with a clean plush MF. as far as the pain being gritty you should wash and then clay it, form there Prime, Prime strong or AIO with PC ( I use a blue LC pad ) then use AJ in a wipe on wipe off method.

Yeah, I would use some AIO or other paint pre-cleaner before AJ. It will help with looks and durability.

Sorry mose, I should have included instructions.

Don't discount the DG 105 so quickly, it is a great sealant in its own right, that, I believe, can easily hold its own against nearly any of the other more popluarly discussed products here. The 105 leaves a great finish, and you may not see a big improvement going with a topper of any kind really, whether it be AJ or anything else.

Why not strip half the hood and do AJ on one side and a fresh coat of DG 105 (or AW) on the other?

Thanks flatstick! When I finally get a weekend that I am not doing customers cars I will be doing the truck again. When I detail the truck next I will :

Wash with Dawn

Clay the whole thing

Polish w/OP

AIO the paint

Apply AJ or whatever LSP I decided to use.

It's gonna be hard to win me over from DG though. Very good stuff!!

Brandon1 - NP bro!! I had a feeling that it was a product mix issue. I bought some AIO and will probably give it a try. I knew there had to be a good reason!! How r u liking the 50/50?

I am loving the 50/50 but am findin out that 1 application is all it needs. I put on my 2nd yesterday and noticed a dulling effect. So it's a fantastic wax and it looks great, but keep it to one application.

Hope you are well from the operation.

" When I run my hand over the paint it feels very gritty and definetly needs to be detailed via PC." You need to clay it before adding anything. Do a IPA wipe and then clay. Then polish then wax or sealant.

Skip the Dawn wash, any polishing will remove what is already on the paint.

AJ is very easy to use if you apply it in a thin layer, a panel at a time, then without adding more product to your foam hand pad, knock down any high spots you see, then buff off the excess with a clean MF. If you look closely, you will see AJ hazes almost immediately.

AJ also works best over Prime or AIO. Makes a great base and it glides on over either. Use AJ like that and I think you will be very happy with the look and several months durability. :)

Yep put AIO or prime on. Best though to spray jett on, work in with some pressure, turn ove towel or use separate and buff with no pressure and high speed

Then put aquawax on during drying and or afterwards

I've got six coats of AW on top of prime acrylic and carnauba and 5 x jett
