Was at a "fall cook-out" party this afternoon.
One attending asked me to take a look at his 2002 Chevy pickup, with added decals of simple flame design, etc on it.
The concern was that in certain places the decal was delaminating from the paint surface.
I pointed out that, even today, there were "deposits" of bird droppings on the top edge of the decals.
As we went around, looking at where the decals were in their worst shape, there were the "bird dropping" evidence.
Bad stuff, that which is in what the birds leave on a vehcile!
He beleived that the decals were stronger than the paint on the Chevy.
WRONG- the acids set upon the upper edges, a little dew, a light rain, and the acids collected on the upper edges and worked their way down over the past few years.
Correction?
Remove the decals, sand down, reapply an acid etch primer, surface primer, base coat and clear coat.
At least it would have to be done all all the surfaces where the decals were applied, both sides, and the hood had the same issue.
He was not happy with what the cost of doing so, since the dealer only charged him $200 for the decals.
Life is tough, etc, etc, etc.
