After Market GPS Systems??

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
This new job has me all over the place and in some cases / most:huh: I have no idea where some of these places are....I went to AAA to get maps of the areas..but as you all know reading a map in the car, looking for driving directions is old school!

Anyone here have a AM GPS system that is easy to use...doesn't look cumbersome when installed (wires and stuff sticking out every where)

Also not one that is $1000 plus

I was also thinking about hand held units but don't know much about those.

Thanks for the advice you tech heads!

I have the magellan road mate 2200T. Very easy to use, has a rechargable battery (but you have to buy the home charger separate) comes with a car charger and mounting device. I paid 329.00 for it with a 3 year warranty.

Beemerboy, I don't have one, but just recently I rode along with a local area bobtail driver who was using a product from TomTom. He couldn't say enough good about it. He drives throughout the D/FW metroplex area which covers a bit of territory, and he says he doesn't miss a pickup/delivery schedule. He demo'ed it to me on the way to our destination and it was pretty impressive on the verbal directions and the display was pretty clear as well. The installation was very clean. Unfortunately, I don't know the specific model and I don't know how many models are available.

Do you need to goto multiple places in one day and would like the gps to compute a shortest route to cover all of the locations in a minimum time or minimum distance trip?
garmin 26xxx series does this
this feature was removed in the newer models

I bought a refurbished 2610 for under $400

here is a good review site
GPS Receiver Information, Software, and Hardware Reviews of Garmin, Lowrance, Magellan and other GPS Receivers

Yes I am developing a route in a very large territory and being able to access the shortest distance to the next stop would be the only reason to have this.

then the 2610 is perfect for you
you can use a 2gb card and load the full U.S. detailed maps
newer models had built in harddrives that possibly may not be as reliable due to vibrations and easy to change if needed

Thanks all for the advice I knew that I could count on you...I'm going to check with Nissan and see if they have a factory one cost might be a issue but it would be nice if it wasn't
