After a rainstorm?

OK, I've gotten the detailing bug. Now my true red MX-5 glows with Poorboy's EX-P topped by a coat of S100 carnuba.



But the inevitable afternoon rains in Florida! What is my "First Aid" to deal with residual raindrops and road contamination? Always re-wash? Meg's Quck Detail? Get a life and get over it till next scheduled wash/wax?



If any of you guys have a "quick detail" protocl for your cars, I'd love to hear it!
 
If you're not near the ocean, a QD is likely fine. If you're energetic, you might go out right after the rain (or hose it down, spray some Aquawax and wipe her down.) The obvious and better solution is a garage, carport or cover.
 
Better than a QD, at least get something with more cleaning power and use it very gently. A couple products are Poorboy's Spray and Wipe, and FK1's 146. I recently got S&W and wish I'd ordered a larger quantity, it's a great product.

None, it's not like when it rains it's salt water coming down :) When it rains, that water falling could have come from anywhere around the world...not just where the nearest water source is. If you live on the ocean front however that could be a different story if you get ocean spray on your vehicle.



I would QEW, very fast and effective! :2thumbs:
 
Move to another state :chuckle: Seriously, I couldn't live in a place where it rained on my clean car every day.



If that's no doable, I'd also recommend QEW. Good stuff.
 
Lol i hear ya man it rains often. I just wash the car twice a week and in between just deal with it. Usually with my coat of wax on it the rain here just beads right up and doesnt leave any watersports only dirt and water behind the wheel from puddles.

Inlaws were 'snow birds' and spent half the year in Cocoa Beach, right on the coast (a few blocks north of Ron Jon's on Ocean Beacch Blvd.) So of course for over 30 years we'd have to go visit! Nothing like gettin on a plane in Central New York in the dead of winter at sub-zero temps and a couple of hours later getting off to bright sun and 80 deg F.



Okay, anyway...



Fairly often, overnight, vehicles would get covered by this nasty film that can be difficult to clean, even from glass. Sea spray or mist from salt sea air I suppose.

I'm not sure how well QD would work in that situation.
 
After a rain shower, if the car hasn't been driven....



Get some PB Spray & Wipe and a WaffleWeave, run out and mist the towel rather heavily and start drying. This works really well for me and I have had no ill effects from doing so.



I LOVE the Spray & Wipe, it is really versatile and very slick. Has great cleaning properties and a bit more lubricity than regular Qd's.
