Advice for newbie !

Hi all,

I have finally decided to take the plunge and get a DA .

Meguiars in Aus will be releasing the G220 in a few months, and for the price, I might give it a try.

first off I have read bout others experiencing failures for the machine, but im sure as with all machines, there might be some bad and some good perhaps. What is the overall opinion on them ? I would like to hear from those who have success and also those who have had problems with the G220 / G110 .

Secondly, with pads, I am thinking of either sticking with the meguiars line of pads , or going with the more popular LC CCS pads. Will the LC pads be compatible ? i dont think it will be a problem since they are all velcro yeah ? What pads from the meguiars and CCS range would you guys recommend ? and how many pads of each kind do you guys usually use for say a normal sized sedan car ? (not as big as a camry though)

in another thread some ppl have discouraged going for the 6.5 and recommended the 4 or 5.5 inch ? should that be the way to go ?

Thirdly, the products. My car's a mitsubishi and there's a honda family car. Both have relatively soft paint, so I think there is no need to go for too agressive a product and pad too right ? Again, I am thinking to either stick with the meguiars range or go with the ultimate merzena products.

What products would you guys recommend for my soft paints ?

I've been reading up and all the numbers and such are making me confused.

would be good to get advice from those who have tested, tried and swear by them.

this is what ive seen others been using: Meguiars #80, #83 , Mernz 085 and 106 ? are they enough ? say if I first test the least aggresive one and its not enough, and i move up to the more aggressive one like the 106 , is it still needed to go to the 085 after ?

or should i even consider the poorboys range ?

which one of their ssr would be good for light swirls , soft coat paints ?

oh and to throw in something , I have the CG pro polish , which is very very fins in abrasives i think. do you guys think it is then ok to just get the more aggressive one say like the mernz 106, then finish up with the pro polish . that will be good if its sufficient, so i wouldnt have to spend more and buy the mernz 085 to finish the polish stage..hmm

PS: my car has only very minor light swirl / fine lines. nothing too serious as compared to others I have seen in other pics

oh, and do these products have a shelf life? simce polishing will be like a half a year thing, these products should last really long...
