adhesive for trim?

My neighbor asked me to detail her 1999 Nissan Maxima.

Some of the body side moulding is coming off of the doors due to adhesive failure.

What do you recommend to glue the body side mouldings back on?

Out of interest, would superglue work, as I need to fix a bit of trim which has become loose

Try it and let us know!

Seriously, I would not try it myself, when you can pick up light duty 3M trim attachment tape at Pepboy, Autozone etc, which will work great for badges etc and only costs a few bucks. For larger exterior applications, side moldings, spoilers etc. better to stick with the professional tapes. If you cannot find them locally, a few body shops sell them online.

If you think about it, the bond is subject to damage by UV, heat, water, cold, automotive shampoos, differing expansion rates and vibration. This is one area where IMHO it is better to use a specialist product.

Yes, your right. I guess I was just looking for the cheap option. Pepboy etc are no good for me as I am on the other side of the 'pond'

Sorry Lowe... I missed the location. From one Brit to another, try the UK 3M website. Look for Automotive aftermarket solution link. They have a distributor search for the UK.

How is it in the UK...its sunny here as usual ;)

Personally I would use 3M super weatherstrip adhesive, yellow or black. It will flex in various temps, is waterproof, adheres better, and lasts longer than super glue or other adhesives. Tape requires proper cleaning of the area and in most cases you would need to also use an adhesive promoter.

I used some weatherproof adheasive I bought from Autozone to attach this annoying ruber molding under the hood that was falling off... it worked well, but I dont know if I would trust it for anything on the exterior
