accepting visa and mastercard?

Can someone recommend a good company to me? I'm looking to do this with my android phone. I've found a company called paynetsystems, anyone have experience with them?

PayPal was my first guess, so out of sheer curiosity, I went and looked at their rates. 3.10% Visa / MC + $0.30 per process for the transaction fee. Plus $35.00 a month for the account. That's for less than $3000 a month in transactions. Over $12,000 a month and the rates drop to 2.40%.

Have they absolutely lost their minds ?!?!?!? I pay $25.00 a month for my leased (leased to own) IP-based POS machine, $10.00 a month for the merchant account, and then my rates are 1.42% Mastercard, 1.49% Visa, and $0.09 per process for the transaction fee.

Be very careful with getting a merchant account to accept credit cards with, and shop around. IMO, that industry is a massive rip-off. If anything, they should be GIVING merchants the accounts and machines for FREE and encouraging people to use their credit cards everywhere and rack up balances and interest.

Definitely give Intuit's GoPayment a look. Fairly good keyed rates and works with just about any good smartphone on the market. I use it with my MOTO Droid and absolutely love it.

I'd look into the bluetooth card reader, as it drops your rates by 0/8%.... just a thought

Yeah, it's definitely on my want list. I just don't process enough cards as of yet to really justify the cost.

There is a way around that I use-it might not be so convenient in the field unless you have a wifi connection or one of those smart phones that can pull up the web.

Basically I made a "donation button" in a hidden html file. I go to my url/hiddenFile.html then press "donate" then enter the amount they owe me and process as a CC w/out logging into Paypal. I enter the customer's information and only get charged the typical 2.99% + 32¢ No monthly fee BS either.

That's definitely cheaper, but still, 2.99% plus 32 cent transaction fees are crazy ! That means on a $500.00 transaction, the fees total to $15.27 !!

Granted, yes, you don't have the same overhead costs as a fixed location (such as rent / lease / mortgage, electricity, etc), but still, that's just robbery from PayPal :grrr

How can I do that hidden html thing? I dont know much about site building...I made a business account and made a button for gift certificates which I plan on using on my site and a donation button to use your trick.

I dont take credit cards and never will. Had bad experiences with them...after you do a couple of details for free you wont like them either. After ajob I like dead presidents ....you know the ones that make the world go around. Again, just my two cents.

Thanks tss, I created the button and my Webpage Guy made a hidden link for me to click on! Only thing is its telling something about not being able to decrypt when I click on the donate button. Could this be because I haven't verified my account? PayPal account take a couple days to setup, u have to wait until they do those deposits.

How exactly did you do details for "free" ? And what do you do when you run into customers who wish to pay via credit card and don't have cash handy ? (I ask because I have NEVER been paid in cash, it's always been credit card or interac).

One guy used his Moms credit card. She called me about 2 months later and wanted her money refunded. She contested it with the card company. Bunch of SH---I went through...I ended up giving her half her money back because I felt bad. She did not even know what detailing was. The credit card company thanked me as he was using the card with her permission.

100 percent of the work I do is cash or GOOD check. Pay pal is another headache I can do without. These are all just my opinions. I am a relatively small operation...a ONE man band if you will. It is by choice that I keep it simple. It cuts down on Grey hair.
