Sorry for the typo

My friends hood. Same on roof.

Clear failure obviously.

Need repaint? Can wet sanding do anything helpful or is it just too late?

Ive never tried to mess with anything like this.

I seriously doubt its fixable but figured id ask before she drops $ on repaint.

I have the duetto with sanding discs but never tried anything like this before.

Hope you guys are doing well and the drought is gone for good..

There is no quick fix for clear-coat failure unfortunately..

If you sanded off the clear that was flaking it would leave all these darker spots that would not ever be the same as the surrounding paint because the clear is gone from them..

The paint died in spots and will continue to die, and only removal and repainting will ever get it back to how it was when new..

If they can live with it, then let it go until they cant, I guess...

Sometimes, feeding it with Meguiars No. 7 helps but that is not a guarantee and the help would be only temporary, as the product wore off..

Sorry this had to happen to your Client..

thanks Dan

ironically we have not gotten much rain since the flooding a few months ago

this is just a friend's car. if it was a client i would have never let it get this bad! or at least i should hang up the polisher for good in that case

i kept giving her spray wax and i will put exp on it whenever shes in town but she literally doesnt care for the car very well so its inevitable- but i still feel bad for her, she cant afford to repait at this time or any time soon

when i saw it first cracking i put four coats of exp and topped that with 3 coats of optiseal but it just got worse

i told her to look into a vinyl wrap - maybe that would be cheaper than sanding down and repainting

Brandt,
I know how you feel, when a car needs help and the owner doesnt really care that much to want to fix it... :(

Yeah, a wrap would definitely cover it but the texture would be different, and what color would work or match best...

I see more and more cars mostly Honda running around with clear coat falling off.. used to be Honda never had those issues, and now they do at least to me...

I remember back in the 80's when GM ran a zillion cars and trucks through with bad paintwork and they stepped up and repainted every vehicle that was brought into the Dealership...
Wow, no wonder they lost their butts so bad so many times...

Good luck, Amigo !

it breaks the heart to see them neglected in such a way, mind you Rodney its partly our own fault, the way we go on you would think we have spray guns in our hands instead of rotarys and DAs

I broke in my duetto on her car a few years back so this was my first vehicle to do correction on, it was pretty bad. So it makes me feel worse.
Probably two years ago this past jan if i recall.

It looked amazing. I wish i would have been able to maintain the car better for her but I've been a busy man working a corporate job and trying to still run my business two days a week.

I know it sounds bad but I almost want to tell her why paint it if you're not going to take care of it is just going to happen again
