Hey everyone, I just got my very first, very own car!!!!! Oooooh, I'm exited! It's a 1997 Ford Escort (green), that is for the most part good. The last owner (a good friend of ours) smoked in it, but I've got some de-smelling spray (and apparently, putting Bounce sheets under the seats helps too). There are only two other problems with it.
1) The Service Engine Soon light comes on LOTS! My friend warned me about this, and other people that I know that own Fords say that this happens with their car too. Not much I can do about that...
2) Surface rust damage: Here's the point to this post. The surface of the car around the wheels has a considerable amount of rust on it. Now, this rust has not penetrated the body, so I don't think it's deadly-serious, but I want to do something about it soon. Here's my dillemma: do I get it professionally de-rusted, or do I do it myself? I know where I can get some de-rusting products and some colour-matched car paints, so the supplies shouldn't be a problem, but the rust has crept up under the current paint on my car. I don't know if that makes it more difficult (and so should be done professionally), or whether I should save some money and do it myself.
Thanks for your help!
