A newbie question about PC

distrbd

all in the details
Please forgive my ignorance but I must ask:IS a detailing machine such as UDM or PC 7424 used only for polishing/applying wax and removing swirls or can you use one for buffing as well?:wow:
If the answer is yes then what attachment is used for buffing?
:help: :help:

Terminology is the key here. Most of the time the terms polishing (removing swirls/defects) and buffing are used interchangeably. What is your definition of buffing? Are you referring to a wool pad? If so, they are typically used on a rotary machine. A PC doesn't generate the speed or heat to effectively use a wool pad.

What I understand as buffing is right at the end ,after waxing and removing it,wouldn't you buff the whole car to give it that extra shine?

You can use it to buff at the end but i perfer to use a microfiber towel to remove it myself. My pads to buff seem to get clogged real quick. Just my 2 cents :D

Alright I understand now, I can't use a pc with a wool pad to buff,to do that I would need a more powerful rotary machine.
so all the talk about how good pcs are it's true if you are planing to correct./revive paint.

PC's can be effective though perhaps not as fast as a rotary for swirl removal (minor paint correction). Paint that has serious swirls or more serious defects may well benefit from a rotary in skilled hands. Many of us have both. When a vehicle is well maintained a PC is the perfect answer for a full detail every couple of months. I don't want to sell the PC short, I've seen them do pretty amazing things in my own hands.

Can't you wrap the polishing pad on the pc with a small MF towel and use it that way?
Again I'm sorry for these questions ,its all a mystery to me

I get it ,serious /professional detailers will eventually need both to get the job done properly and quickly.
Thank you all ,it makes sense now.

The only thing I would add here is that you don't have to be a professional to benefit from a rotary. That said, a PC is a great way to develop confidence prior to using a rotary though it certainly isn't requisite.

I would not wrap any microfiber towles around the pc. It could fly off then you will really have problems.
I know plenty of detailers that wipe off by hand and not by machine. I perfer wiping it down by hand myself :)

I wipe off by hand but have seen instructional video where a microfiber bonnet is placed over a pad (can't remember what kind in the video) to buff wax.
