A black Mazda 6 detailed for an Autopian

Okay, I've got to know. What's the word on 2180? How does it compare to UPP (slickness), Zaino (looks like Zaino in some of the pics), FMJ, etc.? Are you going to post an official review?

The wetsanding job is awesome! Do you know where I can find a wetsanding article?

Thanks

Thanks all.

pigeonbus: The 2180 is a bit tough to use. I wish it stayed wet a bit better and a bit more evenly. It has a tendency to vary in thickness/thinness when applying. The slickness is a bit under UPP and the looks mock Zaino. I will post more once I use it more.

Hi Sean,

Can you explain in a little more detail how you got those wheel-wells looking so amazing? The before and after difference is... :shocked

Cleaning wheel-wells is something I haven't quite grasped the knack of yet.

Thanks.

Very nice transformation. I'm confused about your "spit shine" technique though. Are you doing an actual spit shine like you would do a pair of dress shoes? Or are you using OCW to aid removal?

Jason: I sprayed down with water, then soaked in the Eagle One Wheel/Tire cleaner (similar to A2Z). Then I agitated with a medium hardness bristled brush and rinsed. Onced dry, I dressed with Poorboy's Bold N Bright by spraying on and wiping in.

Seth: Yes! I have the small kit and like I said, you can reuse the papers over and over. It's all I need!

Reid: I knew someone would pick that up. It was me ;). I placed it down very gently. I promise it didn't leave a mark :).

Adamah: Spit shine in my mind is apply product (LSP) and let haze. Then use a little bit of the "spit" (OCW) to remove the haze and enhance removal ease and gloss. It proved to work out well and since its a pure sealant, I knew there wouldn't be any problems with bonding.

Thanks for the explanation. Thats not a spit shine in the true sense of the term but thats ok. I'll know what you mean from now on.

Looks great. I might have to try out that Micro-Mesh sanding kit. I want to try and get more comfortable with process and maybe the higher grit paper will help me.

That's my car! Did you guys use the factory touch-up paint? I need to fix some on mine.

Awesome job! That's how I want mine to look.

Yes... I just used the factory touch-up paint. Mazda is supposed to send you some a couple weeks/months after you buy the car. I didn't receive mine so I called them and they sent it to me at no charge.

the touch up job is slightly noticeable at some angles (if you look for it), and invisible at others. Today I went over the car with the California Car duster (which works amazingly well on a freshly polished and waxed car). When I got back inside my apt I thought, "i forgot to look at the door scratch...". I guess that's a testiment as to how it looks....I wasn't looking especially for it, so i didn't see it.

Whoa.... I'm truly impressed. That is one hell of a transformation with the touch-up. I can't wait to get one of my customers' vehicle back to finish up like that. I hated leaving it the way I did last fall, but it was just too damn cold to risk the paint not being fully cured prior to sanding.

Outstanding work, Sean! Really amazing on the wetsanding and buffing of the scratch! :bow

Interesting idea using OCW to spit shine. I wonder how that would work with #16, Natty's or CMW?

i REALLY need someone to remove scratches like that on my car's rear bumper for me. where are you located?? I would be willing to pay you if you did that to my car......any offers???? i live in the bay area
