A black Mazda 6 detailed for an Autopian

Hi all,

I booked this gig from a local Autopian here, "grahamb". He wanted to do an Ultimate Detail to remove some contaminants, polish out the swirls and defects, work on a scratch, and do the interior. He dropped it off for the day and I gotsa workin...

The interior was more soil and dust than anything. No spills or anything like that, just leftover crap from the NE winter.

-Vacuum

-APC 10:1 to clean everything

-Adam's VRT to dress/protect vinyl, rubber, plastic

-4* Leather Conditioner on leather

-PB S+W on windows, shiny trim, gauges, and door jams

For the scratch...

He had a nice gash on his door that was bothering him, so prior to the job (few days before) I had him clean the scratch out with IPA and apply touch up paint x 2-3 (10 mins apart). When he got there, there was a bulge of touch up paint where I was to work.

-Wash and Clay

-Wetsand with 1500 > 2400 > 4000

-DACP via rotary and LC Cutting Pad at 1750 rpm x 3

-Optimum Polish via rotary and LC Polishing pad at 1500 rpm

-FK1 2180 spit shined with OCW

At some angles you could see a slight mark where the light reflected and the touchup paint wasn't 100% perfect, but it made for a much better appearance overall.

For the exterior, it was moderately swirled on the hood and light swirled everywhere else. After all, it battled a North East winter! The clay picked up more on the horizontal panels than anywhere else, but overall the paint was in pretty nice shape.

-NXT Wash

-PB Clay with NXT Wash as lube

-Optimum Polish via rotary and LC Cutting Pad at 1500 rpm on hood

-Optimum Polish via rotary and LC Polishing Pad at 1500 rpm on entire car

-FK1 #2180 Sealant by hand and MF applicator

-Spit shined to remove with OCW (my new sealant removal technique ;) )

-Adam's Detail Spray to remove pollen before pictures

-Eagle 1 Professional Rim/Tire Cleaner on rims/tires/wells with all respective Meguiar's brushes to clean

-PB BnB to dress

-Flitz on exhaust

Any comments, questions, or concerns, feel free to ask :).

holy cow! thats very very nice.

Do you feel that you get a much better finish with the rotary, thats a nice sanding job there ! Very good you get a gold start lol!

Car looks fantastic Sean :xyxthumbs I like how cleanly you got the scratch out! :up

BTW...your products are on the way...:)

SWEET! Killer job!

Like a mirror - maybe you can use it to fix your hair :p

Is that the EO wheel cleaner in the gallon? Do you dilute it? What methd do you use to clean the wheels with the EO?

With the wetsanding (awesome job BTW) it looks like you applied something on top of the scratch. No? It looks like a puddy or something was spakled on there!

Again, great work :xyxthumbs

JJ_: I think I get a better finish than by hand. vs. PC, I'm not sure as I've only used one once.

RC: Thanks buddy.

Seth: Yup, the gallon. It seemed to work better now that it's warmer out. I sprayed it on cut 50/50, let sit for 1-2 minutes, then agitated the tires, rims, insides of rims, and wells in that order and rinsed with a heavy stream of water. The back rims were far worse for some reason, but all in all about 95% of the gunk came out. There were a couple of unknown substances left.

Cute boy!:o

wow, what a sexy car!!!!

which I guess is why i bought it.

The car looks awesome in person. This morning when I was walking outside all the cars on the street were lined up and you couldn't even see mine because of the sun reflecting off it.

Thanks a lot Sean!

01bluecls: It's called Micromesh. I have papers all the way up to 12,000 grit. They can be used over and over too. Google it :).

graham: Glad you are happy :).

Thanks everyone.

Looks awesome!!!

When I wetsand factory clear, I am a nervous wreck up until the point that I start buffing. I hope I never get comfotable with it, I am sure you know what I mean.

Again, great work!!!!

Joe: After you do something like this...

The rest is just child's play :). Its still a bit nerv racking, but that was the biggest job to date.

That was aftermarket paint though correct?

Factory clear just gets me nervous. I like the fact that I get nervous though, sort of like an instinct that keeps you sharp. :D

I want to try that DA sanding system that meguiars teaches.....

Amazing work Sean :bow - I keep saying I need to get a rotary and also experiment with wet sanding but now, having seen those pics, I think I'm going to give in and go get one!

Ben

DA sanding sounds fun and safer, plus more even sanding. I would like to try it as well on the Merka piece.

Thanks Ben.
