Durability update on next page

Did this late model Silverado 2500 HD with the Duramax Diesel in it the other day. This truck is a true beast and had very subtle, yet effective mods throughout such as: a PIAA Front Airdam with 520 foglights, Xenarc HID Headlights, Power Tonneau Cover, F+R Tow hitches, beefier tires, etc. The paint was in nice shape but in dire need of a clay bar and paint cleaner. The swirls were pretty much non existent! I tried out a new combo today with excellent success; more on that at the end. No befores or interior shots. Final processes:

-NXT Wash

-PB Clay with NXT Wash as lube

-Klasse AIO via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1000 rpm

-Klasse AIO by hand on all chrome, front nose, and lighting

-Duragloss #111 Clearcoat Paint Sealant by hand

-Poorboy's Bold N Bright on tires

-Auto Magic's Seal-It on all chrome, running boards, and painted portions of wheel wells

-GR-40 Trim Cleaner on all black trim

-Meguiar's Trim Detailer on all black plastic to dress

-Hyper Dressing cut 3:1 in wells

-Meguiar's NXT Glass cleaner on all glass

Now to address questions before they arise...

Duragloss Paint Sealant is great, period. I used it on Liz's Pathfinder over the winter next to Zaino Z2 and the look/durability mimicked the Z. I'm not saying they're the same, but I am saying they are very close in many aspects. Take it for what it is... This product goes on VERY easy and comes off VERY easy. It enhances wetness, gloss, and flake pop...a very clear sealant, if you will. I used about .5 oz to do this entire rig.

Auto Magic's Seal-It is a light cleaner/sealant that is a piece of cake to use. It has a watery consistency and very powerful solvent smell. It leaves a very wet and reflective appearance and is great anywhere, but I prefer it in the nooks and crannies.

The GR-40 cleaner is available at www.topoftheline.com . You apply it with a small towel and just agitate it in. It is an extremely high alkalinic cleaner, but it works absolute wonders. It blows away any concoction I've made/bought to clean trim. It reccomends following with a cleaner, then dressing...I chose an all in one procedure. Meguiar's Trim Detailer is easy to use if you use it correctly. I set it on "L" which emits a thin spray pattern. I sprayed about 2-3 inches from the surface and moved quickly over the surface. It looks like the overspray is going everywhere, but its not. None of it sticks to the paint, its just a by-product of some sort. I then wait 2-5 mins, wipe away and repeat if necessary. If you buff clean, this stuff does not run, rather it beads water like new! This combo looks very promising for the future.

Enjoy!

Also to note, the tires were of an odd compound. It felt like they were coated rubber as compared to bare rubber. The brush had little friction with the rubber. Upon dressing, the look was extremely shiny, but it BnB, so I knew no slinging was in site.

Man that's a great job!

Several products there that I've been meaning to try...especially GR-40.

I notice that larger tires seem to make any dressing look much glossier.

Sick work Sean :xyxthumbs

Flake-O-Rama too! Crazy bling on the tires.

Nice assortment of products used on all the little details. I thought you might have something for that tail pipe - you're slacking young man :nono ................. ;) :p

Great job :)

I worked on a CLK today and forgot my camera to post pics :( :sosad

Thanks :).

Zane: You will be BLOWN AWAY by GR-40.

Seth: Uncoated aluminum :(. I acid soaked it and all of the rust still didn't come off. I should've just left it so the look was more uniform.

Everyone says awesome things about the GR-40.

On those tailpipes, I usually start out with an SOS pad followed by #0000 steel wool and Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish.

Thanks Zane. That certainly sounds abrasive enough :). I will carry a scotchbright from now on.

Steve: Best I could do...

I love the PIAA Airdam but after installing the Xenarcs on my tahoe there really is no point in Fog lights.

Great job Sean.

About the tires, i have run across a few like that to. It really takes me by surprise sometimes, as they feel coated in Teflon and the scrub brush could contact paint if not ready for it.

a durmax with "effective" mods but not even a big 4 inch exhaust:( those duramax's have crazy potential! i can't wait till my father gets his hands on one!

Great looking detail sean. I think next detail you should use some Mothers 3 step, maybe some turle wax, and armor all. I'm pretty sure it would still be a beaut! you definately have the skills to make any product look amazing. awesome work.

I am currently doing the exact same vehicle, but with different packages, turbo upgrades, and a forest green metallic paint job. How long did it take you to complete the job? Did in include the interior? I will be spending a little over 11 hours on the truck. The owner told me he always used to drive through the woods with it!

Excellent! Looks like you really get all the little stuff most people probably don't notice. :up

I've used Duragloss products in the past before I started using Meguiars Pro line. I still really like their car wash soap and their vinyl/rubber protectant. Has a great lemony smell.

I usually clean 'em up as best as I can, then shoot them with either black or chrome spray paint. Gets the job done for a reasonable ammount of time. :up

So a little over 5 months now, I cared for her yet again. The owner washes it every 10-14 days with Griot's Wash and the occasional Speed Shine and it is garaged nightly. It had nice beading and some slickness remaining. A very impressive sealant, I must say.
