Edit: MY HANDS HURT!
Today started at 8am and it was already 90* outside here in lovely Durham NC. I was working on a 1995 Grand Am which was purchased by a friend of mine. To say it was in rough shape is a compliment. She was very pleased with the final outcome, much more so than I was. I was working on a tight schedule and only had 4 hours to get things done in.
On to the process
Washed with ONR (3 cap fulls)
Started with Orange CCS pad with medium cut. After 4 passes on the front bumper I had made some progress but not like I wanted. At this rate it would take 8 full hours, time which I didn't have today.
AFter working the car for 30 minutes, I switched over to the Yellow CCS Pad with HT-357 (Heavy Cut) its yellow creamy throughout and doesn't smell to bad!
This combo did the trick!
Tires were cleaned with Red Max, followed by super green stuff and hosed off. Then they were dressed with Poly-Pro (from Majestic Solutions) and sprayed down with Grape Stuff from TOL. I must say that this combo made the tires look almost as good as the paint does.
Oh the wheel wells got the same treatment as the tires.
after wheels/wells were done I only had enough time to do a wipe down with OS which really made the car stand out. I was happy that after I polished with the yellow pad I didn't have to go over the car with a smooth cut polish to make the finish more refined. The finish looked good after it was all done...
After 4 hours of work I am complete
Before Pictures:
Really faded and not to good looking. The whole car looked like this
Ignore those tires I tried out a dressing on them...thats why the look good....
Hood is swirled and ugly, looks like clear coat failure on there as well....not cool
Roof is swirled and faded some as well
The rear bumper is where I spent most of my day approx 2 hours on it alone and the below picture shows you why! Wow can't even seen anything in that thing! :wall
At first glance this didn't look to bad, but this was taken at night, and in the DAYTIME it looks ALOT WORSE!
And finally this.....
wait one more before picture, this shows the rear bumper and decklid/trunk, see how much worse the bumper is.... its terrible!
and on to the afters:
Shade Roof:
Shade Hood:
The rest are sun pictures:
Another hood After shot
Remember before how you couldnt tell anything in the front quater panel...
Rear to front Driver side
Trunk/Decklid/Spoiler
Passenger side shots
The whole process took about 4 hours start to finish, I wanted to use the white ccs pad with a smooth cut polish to refine the look even more, and then take the blue pad and put a layer of EZ Cream Glaze followed by OS for a final touch, but due to time I only had time to Yellow Pad it out and OS it. It doesn't look the best but hey its STRIKING improvement over what she had!
