#9 and #80?

Ok, well I got everything I need, except a day that the car won't get wet and dirty right after I'm done lol. But I've been thinking, would it look any better if I put on some #9 after I do #80? or would I just be doing an extra step? I was also wondering, for polishing say one a month to month and a half, would it be safer to use 9 instead of 80? (I don't have much experience with the megs pro line) THanks again guys and holy hell am I glad I have all of you to answer my detailing questions. BTW, I tried to talk to my dad about detailing, and he was like here, take this 20 and go get some more wax or something lol. *maybe I should do that more often???*:wavey

:edit: I'm so glad I found this site, I would have just kept using megs cleaner wax, and 26 all my life, but not anymore.

It depends on the severity of your paint. #80 is a very nice polish/glaze that can hold its own on removing minor swirls. It also leaves a nice wet finish that allows you to go to your favorite LSP (last step product). #9 contains alot of oils and fillers that tends to hind the more dominant swirls it can't remove. It is not very abrasive so it can only do so much. If you have a PC I would hit the car w/ #80 and inspect the the finish to see if it removed what you wanted it to. If you must polish your car every other month or so then I would say #9 is safe enough to do so.

On that note, if you get your cars finish nearly flawless, or to where you want choose a nice durable wax or sealant and with proper care and wash techniques you shouldn't have to polish every other month. Just my .02

What about #81 after #80 instead of #9?? Would that be more the way he should go or would the #81 be kind of redundant after the #80???

#80 isn't that aggressive but polishing every month with it is not something I would recommend. It's an abrasive and does remove paint. You only have so much clear. If you need to polish every month than you need to improve your washing and drying process.

Sometimes, but very rarely, the #80 can leave micromarring even when it's fully broken down. In those cases using the #9 might be just the ticket. Otherwise the #80 should leave a ready-to-wax finish all on its own.

The #81 is nonabrasive (Meg's calls it a "pure polish"). It can add some oils/fillers that might make things look better but you'll have to try it to see if it improves things *for you*.

And yeah, I sure wouldn't use #80 every month. Work on the wash/dry technique ;)

Thanks guys. I knew that 80 was too strong, but did't really have an idea of what I could use other than that. I'm not really planning on polishing every month, but most likely it will need it. I'm not the only one who drives the car, and the other one doeasn't seem to understand that if it looks a little dirty you shouldn't rub it to make sure it comes off. I also will have to use something on my bosses car because his son washes it for him in-between when I see every month. and umm lets just say I wouldn't use those rags to wash my hands. Also a lot of times I end up being forced to park right beside one of those huge prickly bushes at my apartment:angry . I haven't put any swirls in the car while washing, the only way I could be more carefull would be to not was it lol, but it does have some in random places, and small "scratches" on the door that are easily fixed but takes too long to do by hand. But you said that #9 contains fillers, will that interfere with my LSP? Thanks guys and sorry for the rant, I'm at work and if I keep typing I don't have to go to the meeting. *makes me look busy* :wavey

I have #9 at home as well.

It does have lots of fillers and, as I understand, could interfere with your LSP. If you use #9, you might want to try a nonabrasive chemical cleaner next (e.g., AIO, PS21 GPEC, etc..).

The Uncle: Thanks, thas what I was thinking but living in an apartment I don't wanna do extra steps cause people stare at me when I clean lol. I can always take my car to work and do it in the shop but then I wouldn't be able to get started till like 6. And ofcourse I have to worry about the workers getting paint on my car, so I'm kinda stuck.

I normally go for #9, NXT Wax, #16 Looks great on a black car anyway :xyxthumbs

Maybe #83 DACP every 12 months before #9

all that with a PC

Aletank: Thanks man, that should work well because my car is really dark blue. what makes it even easier is those are products that I can easily get or already have.
