'87 Ferrari 328 GTS: a work in progress

This car had been sitting in a barn awaiting minor resto. when the

owner got sidetracked on another project and just decided to sell it.

Our GM brought it to me smiling and said it would be my project ; my "baby",

as he put it.

First off, I don't post this as a testament to my abilities , rather as an example

of the value of a decent detail to a car in desperate need of one.

The changes in lighting and angles you'll see in the pics are not

meant to be deceptive or hide any of my shortcomings as a detailer...it's just

me screwing around with the adjustments on a very tempermental camera.

The paint in the afters is not PERFECT , by any means. 20 year old SS Ferrari

paint is not something you want to push too far.

My main goal was to bring back some shine and gloss to this neglected beauty.

Truth be told, this was a fairly easy and straightforward process...very fun

and rewarding ,too.

This is an ongoing labor of love for all involved : our GM

(who hunted down and purchased the car), our mechanic---a Ferrari specialist

(the car is actually in good mechanical shape...just needs some tweaking

and a knowing touch) , the bodyman (repairing the hood hinges) and

right on down to me (the bucket and hose jockey).

The process to this point, in a nutshell:

--Chemical Guys' Cut 7.0 w/ white LC pad via Festool Rotex, speed 3-5 (RO mode)

--CG 7.0 w/ green Propel V2 speed 3-5

--CG 7.0 w/blue Edge pad, 3-5, x2

--CG EZ-Creme Glaze w/red LC pad, x2

Enough of my crap---enjoy:

(Too many pictures?)

Like I said ,it's a work in progress.

I'll post the finished product when the mechanics are done with it

and I can put the finishing touches to it.

Thanks for looking.....

Looks great, the paint gets deeper and deeper as the pictures go on. The interior looks great too... No such thing as too many pictures.

:bigups how could someone let a prize car like that get in that condition? anyway, great job so far! cant wait to see it when its done. its amazing what hides under oxidation

Funny, because I've had that damn theme song stuck in my head for days!

Also kept thinking about Higgins and "The Lads".

Now all we need is T.C. and Rick and we're all set to solve this one. :chuckle:

Post pictures when you detail T.C.'s chopper! :dance :waxing:

That's mighty fine work...... and definitely Magnum-approved!

What did you use to clean/dress the spare tire area, or trunk i guess haha?

Amazing transformation... gotta love that SS red paint... I've done 2 BMWs and like someone said above, it really is amazing what hides under all the oxidation... Great job bud, post many more pics... that thing's amazing

Thanks for the compliments ,guys, but I really would

feel guilty for taking any real credit on this one; it almost cleaned itself.

Single stage is pretty easy to work with....the hardest part was

not getting too aggressive and knowing when to stop.

Scott: the worst part about the interior was the seats. The befores

aren't a trick of lighting---the seats really were gray. It took patience ,care

and multiple light cleanings and dressings to bring them back...these suckers

were THIRSTY! Same with the Targa top. They look pretty sloppy now

from the dressing , but once they're satiated I'll buff them down.

lecchilo: cleaned with #39 (APC would probably have worked fine, too)

and dressed with Meg's All Season.

SilverLexus: I'll have to post pics of the shop/showroom. You'd literally

have to move 10-20 cars to get this thing anywhere near a door to get it outside.

Makes it frustrating when you want to check your work...especially on black.

We have an interested buyer on it already , so maybe in a few days,

if he takes it, I'll be able to get some outside shots before he takes off

with it.

I got a day off today and a well deserved break from the recurring paranoia

involving man-eating mustaches and snarling Dobermans chasing

me in helicopters. :)

Thanks again, everyone.
