8 cars, too many pics (seriously). Z28/335/Z4M, etc...

Have fun loading this one!

'94 Camaro Z28 (you can read more about what's in it here: http://fernandes.gary.googlepages.com/), all I know is it's blown and it's quick. Owner wanted it show-ready. I spent a really long time on this car, I don't miss it! :) He's put wheels and vinyls on since the detail I think.

Clay

Hi Temp Heavy/orange @ 1600rpm

106ff/white @ 1300

Prime Strong

AJT

camaro.jpg

Arctic White BMW 335i coupe. This car made me happy! It was a new car prep so I clayed, Prime Strong'd, and AJT'd. Cleaned up the interior with 303 and a combo of z9/z16. (the plate is temporary, he removed it post detail)

335.jpg

Another new car prep, this time a BMW Z4 M Roadster. Same process as above, but this one got Z2pro and some debadging. Excuse my art project photos, you'll have to humor me. :)

z4m.jpg

Acura 3.2TL, this car had never been, well, anything'd. The owner basically said he was going to ditch it but liked it too much so he wanted to keep it and it was time for a detail. Boy was he right.

Clay

Mucho wetsanding of deep marring

Hi Temp EC/OP @1500

FPII/white @1400

Z5pro

Inside was Leathique Pristine clean and a brush, and a lot of scrubbing. Smokers car, 115k km, you know how that goes. The leather turned like 8 shades lighter (seriously, check the pic... it was pretty grody). Leatherique Rejuv Oil, 303, wet vac, etc and so on.

tl.jpg

Honda Pilot. I did this detail for $100, don't even ask... :/

Clay

Heavy Cut/orange @1500

106FF/black @1300

Z5pro

Inside was a lot like the TL, pretty much the same process except I went to town with Zaino for the good smelling goodness this time.

'02 A4, this is a repeat client. I put some Prime and AJT on this car on May 14th and it was still beading very nicely which made me happy. He said it's outside 24/7. I polished via PC with FPII/white and then re-applied Prime and AJT. I did the inside this time too, hilariously the owner is really good at keeping it clean, so it was shockingly easy.

He brought his friend along, Accord Coupe. This one needed more work - the front had been re-painted (very poorly), and you could still see wetsanding marks all over it. It's one of the poorest repaints I've ever seen, the stone chips are intense. I felt bad for the guy. The marring on the rest of the car wasn't even that bad but the repaint just ruined it.

Heavy Cut/orange @1400

Megs 80/white @ 1300 (106ff wasn't cutting it on this one).

Z5pro

accord.jpg

Today's car. '03 A4, the owner has a ton of money into it. Larger turbo, forged internals, BBS wheels (not on now), coilovers, S4 seats and steering wheel, etc. It's a really nice looking car. It had been "detailing" in June, but there were swirls and holograms all over the thing. My PTG read 15u on the hood and roof but only 11-12 on the sides near the body line (where the halo's were the worst). Shoddy rotary work pisses me off. :/

Clay

EC+OP/orange @1600 on hood, roof, rear deck and tops of fenders.

Heavy cut/orange via PC on doors and lower fenders (I didn't want to even touch those areas with the rotary).

106FF/white via PC (thankfully the paint was hard, so no micromarring to deal with).

This car was a long one, 10 hours total - the halo's on the sides (you can sort of see them in the first pic, vertical ones) were really deep... almost like someone dry buffed it. A shame too, because otherwise the car came out really well.

Money shot!

Cheers.

i like the picture with the green van/truck or whatever it is, the leather before and after is great.......

Nice work on all. I am digging that sweet cell phone in the Acura 3.2TL. Where can I find a phone like that? 1995? :)

I always love your photography!!! Makes me so envious to wish I had your photo skills and camera haha. Sersiouly though great job on all of them.

On a side note...I read Leatherique combo is supposed to be applied by this method from the manufacture...."Use Leatherique Prestine Clean to clean leather after application of Rejuvenator Oil has done its job or as a maintenance cleaner and detailer." It pretty much states that using the rejuvenator first which the oils soaks into the leather and expunges the drit and grime. Then use Pristine clean after to grab up those contaminents and leave the leather clean.

Have you tried this method? I only read that recently as I only have the rejuventor and not pristine clean. Looks like I might have to order it.

Haha, I actually said "1998 wants its phone back" to him. He liked it though!

I haven't tried this method, this is the first I've heard about it. I always go pristine clean then leave rejuv oil on while I do the rest of the detail, then wipe it off later. I will try it the other way around next time for sure though!

Superb as always! I am always amazed at the level of correction you are able to achieve, even on rock hard paint like Audis. :bow

Thanks for the durability update on Prime/AJ as well. 7 months is pretty good!

Kevin, Very nice work on all.

Leatherique-You will also get better results if after you apply the RO you let the car sit in the sun with the windows up. It creates a "steaming effect" that helps lift the dirt to the surface of the leather. I then use PC by spraying on one section at a time, work it in with gloved hands. Then I take a cotton hand towel, dip it in a bucket of warm water, wring it out and wipe the section off. Flip the towel and keep using a different side till there is no more dirt on the towel.

I am sure this would be hard for a detailer to do as time usually does not allow.

GREAT work! Any chance you can send me the full size pic of the A4(6th from the bottom, next to the XC70). I think I found my new background. :woot2:

:up totally going to try this. :)

wow... that's great, i think i might try out leatherique too! how do you wetsand...? do you go over it with EC first to see which ones are left?

I don't polish first. I can usually tell which ones are too deep for EC, and when wetsanding you have to go into it knowing you'll probably never remove the marks your sanding entirely; they are either through the clear or really deep into it. So I take a block of 3000 unigrit, spray the area heavily with ONR+water, then lightly sand the area. Important note: move in one direction, so sand, pick up block, move it back to start, sand. Don't go back and forth unless you're getting aggressive.

Nice job on all of them!

And you should have taken a picture under the hood of that Z28! lol

Not my pic, but you get the idea. I did take one and can post it later. :)

No problem. I'm not at that computer right now but I will post the full sized one later today. :xyxthumbs

Thanks guys!

Oh ya, Scott - I know, 7 months outside and still beading and it was reasonably slick. I was really impressed. He said he hasn't touched it aside from washing with Megs Gold Class. The only reason I polished was he had some light wash induced marring and since the car is outside it needed a clay to remove some stuck on bits. Otherwise I'd have just AJT'd again.

hey picus, again great job on the cars. I'm doing my m3 today, and I'm going over it with OP and with a LC white pad on a rotary. Some swirls are going away, but not all.

Question: How much pressure do you add when you use your rotary (i just let the machine do the work on mine), and how many passes do you use for each step... say Heavy cut and 106.

Heya - I don't add any pressure, just let the weight of the machine do the work. I usually do 2 passes with heavy and one with 106ff, but by two passes I mean I just go over the area twice in like a crosshatch pattern; make sense?

OP might be little light for anything more than very minor swirling; if you have some Opt Compound you might want to get that a try, or move up to an orange pad.
