7424 vs 7336

I have read the specs and also the reviews. The main difference, from what I understand, is the counterweight provided with the 7424.



Is the 7336 difficult to use?



The reason I am asking for opinions is simple economics...there is a home improvement store in my town selling the 7336 for $99.



If I am careful and follow the instructions offered withing Autopia and BCC, will I be ok and have an extra $50 to spend on some Pinnacle?

I assume you're talking about Lowes selling the 7336? Many people here have the 7336 that they bought from Lowes. I have the 7424, but they are nearly identical.

Like you said, the only difference is the counterweight provided with the machine. I'm not sure, but the backing plate might be a different size as well. I know the 7424 comes with a 6" backing plate.
 
You are right about the location of the 7336, less than one mile away from home.



Since the folks at PC are marketing the 7424 towards car-care, does that mean they have done anything different in the creation process? Or, have they just re-packaged the 7336 and left out the sanding disc?
 
From what I understand, the counter-weight(5-inch?) that comes with the 7424 should be used with 5-inch or smaller backing plate, and the weight that comes with the 7336(6-inch?) should be used with a 6-inch or larger backing plate. I'm no expert though, other people with much more info and knowledge should be able to provide you with an answer.
 
I use the 6" counterweight for everything except the small 3.5" bp for the 4" spot buff pads, which is when I grab the 5" cw.
 
The 7424 comes with the 5" counterweight, but I bought mine on special, where it came with a 5" and 6" counterweight. I have yet to use the 5".

The counterweights are cheap and easy to change, but I doubt that you'll have a need to do so. Many use a 6" counterweight w/no problems and I use a 5" counterweight w/no problems:

You'll most likely order a new backing plate when you order pads (or a pad kit) anyway, since most 6-7" pads use a 5" backing plate.
 
I have the 7336 from Lowe's as well. All of my pads (6") work well with the 6" counterweight. I've also got 4" Cyclo pads that I use with a 3.5" backing plate. Never really had any problems using the 6" counterweight on those either!
