7424 Q & A

Ok here's the run down. I work at a Ford dealership cleaning cars(I say cleaning because rarely do they let me detail the cars) and want to start doing side work actually Detailing vehicles. I kinda have a system down for exterior wash, interior, wax, tires/wheels, etc. However I've never really had a chance to do paint correction. I have a crappy rotary polisher but I know its not up to the job when it comes to money making detail jobs.

So here what I wanna know...Is the 7424 up to the job? I've been reading up on it alittle bit and it seems like it'd be a good buffer for me to start off with. I just wanna know what you guys think since most of you guys have been in the detailing game for awhile. lol :bigups

the PC is a great tool for both the beginner and pro (i personally wouldn't be without one, and everyone should own at least one D/A IMO). with the right pad and product combo, you'll be amazed at what can be accomplished (it's also versatile as you can apply glazes, lps's, and clean carpets with the brush attachment). there are a few to choose from.. PC7424XP, G110 V.2, Griots 6" R/O (also, there is the Flex 3401 which is 3X more $). one member on here who does top notch work with the PC would be bryan a.k.a. gmblack3a, do a search for his threads...

Yes, the 7424 or any other orbital polisher would be good for you to start with. It's going to be more about learning pad combos with compounds/polishes to get the correction you desire. The dealership will be a good place to develop your technique, since most have hack detailers and swirled up cars. Just always keep your eyes open for outside opportunity, that dealership is a dead end street.

Thanks for the comments guys. I actually went ahead a purchased a PC7424XP last night, along with some CCS pads and M105/M205 (and 2 grit gaurds) and yes I know the dealership is a dead end road. hahaha

So far I've really loved this whole detailing thing and would really like to get into the professional sector. Unlike some of the guys I know that claim to "detail" I actually love cars and have always been an enthusiast. I'm hoping this will help me in the long run.....when I see a nice Porsche Carrera I'll be thinking damn how can I make this car look like new instead of damn how can I make a profit without doing much work.
