I guess I win the booby prize. Blackfire sitting on my counter!

This weekend may be tough, but I'm going to try to get a coat on my Mustang. I have alot of prep work, so it might not be until next week....:o

Every year I do a paint correction "seminar" for the Noland Road Baptist Church Car Show in Independence, MO.

This year's (freebie) victim was a '74 Corvette with original paint, original owner and NEVER polished in it's 36 year life!!! The day was near perfect. About 61 degrees, so I was nice and cool! (When it's really hot, they set up a tent for me.)

The paint was in good shape. Pretty shiny considering all he ever did was to wax it. No oxidation.

BUT......... It was Loaded with swirl marks and RIDS.

Also, it was single-stage lacquer, which is usually pretty easy to work with... not overly hard or brittle.

PROCESS:

1. Car was clean. Owner had just washed and QD'd.

2. Clayed with Zaino Red Clay.

3. Polished with Griots RO/M105/LC Orange/KBM/Speed 5-6/Heavy Pressure/One-Step!!! I couldn't believe how this thing looked after one-step with M105! (I think lacquer is like that!)

4. Quick wipedown with H2O/IPA.

5. Added 1 coat of BFWD by Griots RO/3M Black Waffle/Speed 3. Removed with soft MF.

6. Z8 wipedown, then pictures.

Total duration 3.5 hours. (Yes, I worked my butt off!):Dancing Dot:

I remember doing a burn thru on a yellow 76 one time. Those frikin fenders edges are not rotary freindly :o

Outstanding job Bill. Please remind me of next years event so my car can be your ginnie pig :cornut:

Why is the door lock on the front fender  J/K

that door lock i believe is the alarm. i had a 72 that was where the trunk lock would be. my 71 doesn't have one.

I recall that rotary car wash pull though mechanisms were always too low for corvettes back then and thereby saved a lot of paint - your efforts really brought the paint up to date! Nice work Bill!

Nice Bill!!!! No noticeable marring from 105/orange. If the car was black, it'd be a different story.

Yeah, I told him that I could do another pass with 205 and make it near perfect (If he was willing to pay for it!). He said: "This is the best it has ever looked... even when new!" I think he liked it.

Amazing Bill. That color is stunning as is the work. One step??? Gotta love when paint likes being polished :D

I think that 's one of the characteristics of old original lacquer. All the pads I used are now BLUE! But the paint definitely responded to the polishing!:Dancing Dot:

Bill,

Just curious, was there sum micro maring ? and if so ,did the sealant and Z8 just make it not noticeable ?
I like the cars , a good car show ! is it the same time every year ? that would be a nice little road trip for me, I would like to see you do your magic act :notworthy: :cornut:

You would really have to get close up to see the micro-marrs. Lacquer is very easy to work with and very forgiving. The down-side of lacquer is that it tends to oxidize quickly (not in this case though).

The show is usually the second Saturday of May, but not always. Usually about 300 cars, free giveaways (3 Craftsman tool chests, $100 Sears Craftsman Gift Cards, etc.)

Not really magic..... Just KBM!:cornut:
