giozmo- Welcome to Autopia!

I love those old Cadillacs :D

As sacdetailing said, I'd think twice about taking a rotary to that. I've done a lot of rotary work on old single-stage-paint cars, but that'd be a tricky car to do via rotary given the panel contours and trim. PLEASE don't take this the wrong way, but "if you gotta ask, you're not ready to do it on that car".

The 3M Extra Cut (good stuff, I use it) is *VERY* aggressive and is not something I'd use on that unless you have a very specific reason to do so. No way I'd use it on that one.

It appears that it was repainted with single stage paint at some point. I would *NOT* try to remove all the repaint-related flaws and I'd be very careful around the chips and panel edges lest you make things worse instead of better.

I wouldn't even be reaching for my 3M stuff, but rather Meguiar's or Optimum. IF it really is a single stage repaint, make that Meguiar's period.

But first of all, is it single stage or a b/c repaint? Gotta know what the paint is before you even think about what approach to use.

I'd be thinking along these lines:

Pre-soak the paint with lots of Meguiar's #7. Let that sit overnight and then buff it off. Then polish the car with M80 Speed Glaze or *maybe* M02 Fine Cut (new version) followed by the M80. Then more M07, then wax.

You might want to contact Mike Phillips at AutoGeek, he's an authority on stuff like this particular job.
