im about a month out from getting the bike of my dreams. i love honda. but ive heard suzuki is a better bike. love the blue and white suzuki, like the yellow yammy, and like the red honda, and im not sure about the kows cause there isnt any around my area, as far as colors. anyone have any input on what to get or are they all the same or just dif brands? im not a racer or a stunter just a daily driver, and dont mention any other bikes except for the 600s' please

I ride with a large cross section of guys, pretty much every modern make and model, and have sampled most of the them. Here is what I think...

Suzuki.... Stay away. There is a reason that suzuki's have a reputation of squid bikes... Becaue everyother suzuki rider has an idiot riding it with shorts, a teeshirt, and flipflops. There is nothing wrong with the bikes performance however, as they definetly on par with the other 600's (and the GSXR1000 its nasty). However, they are poorely made compared to others in the class and honestly my 3 of my friends gixxers (2 750's and 1 600) have spent more time in the shop (they are all 2005s) then the rest of our bikes put together.

Honda.. A CBR600RR is my current stead and I peronsally think its the best looking 600. Performance wise, its pretty much equal to all the other 600s (though the yammie puts out about 5 more horsepower at the rear tire). It is widely regarding as the best handling 600, and as far as realibility, lol its a Honda. The 4 600rrs in our group (2003, 3x2005's) have never had a problem. Not one....

Yammie.... Sweet bike that was supposed to break all the rule and revolutionize the 600 class. Unfortunatly a lot of the hype turned out to be just that, hype. The engine only revs to 16,000 despite the tach reading 17500 (which means you must sign a waiver when you by this bike stating that you understand that. The was a class action lawsuit against Yammie for false advertising). This bike does put of more hp then the rest of the 600 class, but you lose a lot of torque, meaning this is a great bike for the track, but on the street your gonna be twisting the throttle a little more to keep up. Still, a fresh, good looking design and light weight make this a good choice.

Ninja 636... I haven't rode the 636, but I will say on paper this should be the 600 king. Slipper clutch, good torque, good horsepower, claimed low weight. Only thing is, this bike constatly rates lowest on magazine tests.

Trimuph 675... More power, more torque, less weight, awesome styling, exculistivy, ect ect ect.... If I hand my Honda paid off, I would be riding this. Awesome 3 cylinder sound, faster then a Gixxer 750.. How could you not love it....

Anyways here is how Sport Rider ranked the 06 600's and 750's

1) Trimuph 676

2) CBR600RR

3) Gixxer 750

4) Gxxer 600

5) Yamaha R6

6) Ninja 636

7) Ninja 600

LOL, the Gixxer is probably a little quicker in a straight line (like .05 in a 1/4 mile) but in every test the 600RR slaughters the Gixxer around a race track.

The truth is every 600 is so close that its going to come down to the driver, period. So when I think "better bike" I think build quality and realibilty. And the Suzuki is last in both of those....

ive rode honda for many years exslusively. 400ex quad, rode hard for four years and sold it without EVER taking it to the shop, cr125 dirt, rode hard for three years and just did carb work that every two stroke does. 750 shadow street cruiser, going on five years and nothing. i am a true believer in hondas (GO HONDA, GO RED),

as far as the ss bikes are conserned, honda is going on three years without any upgrades wich will prob mean less to go wrong since they got all the buggers out and kept it that way as they did the 400ex for like ten years and still going. the others are new in changes wich means they (might) have probs. suz.. re done in 06, yammy redone in 05, and i didnt even know that triumph made em. that is a nise looking bike and the same pris as the others +/- 200, bigger power to boot, hmm. i will look into that.

just wish honda had a better color sceem for their 600s cause i love the blue and white suz..

It is pretty much personal preference. Me, I have owned suzuki (hayabusa, hated it), honda (cbr1000rr, sweet bike), 2 kawasakis (zx6r, and zx12r, love em both). I presently own the zx12r, I love it. You need to sit down and think about what you are going to use it for? I agree with TH0001 and his comments on squids, I see them on all bikes however. Dont get a bike above your skill level, have fun, and dont forget to wear your helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots.

protective gear lol yea you learn about that alot on the dirt. and the driving is just going to be highway, 30 miles each way to and from work, i know that this isnt the most comfortable to do it on but its what i want, like i said before im not a stunt trick or a wheelie rider, just a fun daily driver.

For my .02. I'd also look at the Interceptor. A little more upright riding position, good looks, great handling, etc. a 30mi ride to work is no fun squished up on a sportbike. It's a nice bike, check it out.

I ride my CBR600RR to work on the weekends (about 30min) and love it. Its mostly twisty roads so I don't mind being cramped up.

I would also like to add that pick the bike that you like the most based on how comfortable and how you like the way it looks. I'll tell you right now that the 600RR is the most uncomfortable bike I have been on, but I loved the way it looked so I had to get it.

Here are some pics of my bike after being polished with 82 and a PC, then a coat of 21 and a coat of 26...

Unless you're tearing up the roads all MotoGP-like, all the repli-racers (GSXR, R6, 600RR, 636, etc) are essentially the same and beyond overkill for commuting and riding in the hills.

IMO if you're just commuting and riding in the hills occassionally, get a used F4i or YZF 600R. Comfy, lower insurance and not as much of a 'poser' bike....man it irks me when I see repli-racers used only for commuting.

Me, I had a F4i and loved it. Comfy, reliable, very predictable, and tons of fun. With +2 in the rear it was a blast :). I sold it (baby on the way) and plan to get a Kawasaki Z1000 next.

there might be a misunderstanding on my part but i dont think so. are you saying that if i get the gixer or the 600rr then im a poser? cause i know that you didnt buy your mazda cause the price was right you bought it cause its a sexy car and it has power and handling. as with the bikes that i want. and im just tired of my 750 and ready to move up in power, and im tired of the cruisers. just time to move on for me.

Misunderstanding, I never intended to explicity call you a poser :). The whole bike/car correlation isn't precise, but my point is to get a bike that suits your needs. Repli-racers are becoming more and more like full on racebikes with blinkers. Its capabilites are way way above what anyone would need for street riding IMO. So for me it's a waste to ride a repli-racer at 40% of its capability 100% of the time. Pushing it to 75% or more on the track every once in a while justifies having a repli-racer. That's just me :).

btw the Mazda 6 does NOT have great power and handling. It's just a hair above the Camry & Accord IMO. I got it because it's not a Camry/Accord, looks perty and has tons of trunk space since it's a hatchback.

+1 on buying used if its your first bike.

You WILL drop it if its your first bike. EVERYBODY I know that rides has dropped thier first bike, wether in a parkinglot doing slow speed turns or forgetting to put the kickstand down, ect... It will happen.

Infact, I would by a several year old Ninja500 for maybe $500-1000. Buy one thats been beaten and dropped, ect... This way you wont' get pissed when you first drop your bike. Buying a crotch rocket as your first bike is POSING, IMO.

The reason to buy the Ninja500 used for cheap is because there is almost no loss in value as you own it. Many times you will be able to sell it for exactly what you bought it for, so its like free miles. In the interm you will be able save up a down payment for a bike you want, so IMO its a win win situation.

Definitely buy an older used bike for your first. You WILL drop it! Also, have you taken the MSF course? It will shorten the learning curve somehwat. Just price what a replacement plastic body panel costs and I think you will have second thoughts about getting a new bike :D

Here is a link to the MSF. They have a locator on their page where you find a course near you.

Once you are ready, I would go with the Honda :2thumbs:

plenty of riding experience, dirt and pavement. i know all about the dropping, and knock on wood , ive only droped my cruiser once, while puting the kick stand down lol. thanks. great advise for a beginner though. and as far as %40power %100 of the time, well we all know that never happens with anything. im not going to go to any tracks cause there isnt any around my area but yea i will def. be running it. kinda suck only being able to do 95 or so topped out on my 750, not that that is slow or anything but that is all it has. as a man i am a power junkie as we all are. %100? no but it will be used.

so enough with my replies, my first post was what ws a better bike? not what was a cooler or more "accepted" bike.

I never dropped my first bike. My freakin' wife did.

I got the phone call while in class one day. Honey, I was tring to move your bike and I dropped in on the garage floor, I'm ok, but I think I broke something on your bike. BTW, I can't pick it up!

MOTHAF***ER!!!!

Not sure many people are going to have first hand experience with each of those bikes. What you are going to hear here is prefences. Is this going to be your first sport bike? The reason I ask is the ergonomics are going to be a lot different than a cruiser and probably not best suited for commuting. If you are going to be using the bike for commuting have you considered something a little less "radical"?? Have you looked at bikes like the Honda 599, Suzuki SV600 or maybe the Kawasaki Ninja 650R? What are your requirements for the bike?

If you are dead set on one of the race replica 600s than I would probably go for a Honda. I am a bit biased as I have always been a Honda guy but, I truly believe they are the best built bikes on the road. They aren't always the fastest or the flashiest but, they are the most reliable bikes out there. That is what you want in a bike you are going to be riding on a daily basis. You have two choices there the milder CBR F4i or the wild CBR 600RR.

The Kawisaki Ninja 650R is a blast. I bought one as my first bike a month ago and I already have 1,500 miles on it. I bought it about a month after taking the MSF course and am hooked. I still take it relatively easy out there since I'm a still a new rider, but it accelerates great and handles really well too.

I was planning on posting a picture here too but it looks like Photodump is acting up right now so I'll get one later. Its a really good looking bike too, I get lots of compliments on the red frame and exhaust under the bike. Although I am changing out the stock pipe for a Leo Vince slip on.. I think it sounds weak in stock form for being a twin

My first bike was the SV650S. The photo above is of the SV650. The S model had the headlight seen in my ID over there <---

It was a great beginner bike but totally different than the inline 4 cylinder in terms of power delivery. I loved mine though.

Go for the Honda :p!

I just bought my first motorcycle a month ago.

A 1992 Honda CBR600F2.

I love it to death!

With that being said -- although I haven't sat on the F4 personally... I would look at the F4 if it is anything like the F2. Very similar performance to the RR series, but in a more comfortable seating position.

I am 6'3 and it is one of the most comfortable bikes I have ever sat on.
