5 Star Shine vs Xzilon???

I recently bought a new metallic silver Camry at a dealership. The dealership was trying to sell me Xzilon (http://www.granitize.com/cat/categoryDetail.cfm?type=Xzilon) for $595. They told me that I will not have to wax my car again for the next 5-7 years. They will apply this stuff outside and inside the car, protecting the paint, fabric, and leather. Knowing dealers, they probably marked up the cost by about 1000%. So I said if they sell it to me for $50, I'll think about buying it.

Anyways, does anyone know if this stuff is any good?

What about Resistall (http://www.ctpc.com/professional/pro1.asp)? This guy that works at a car dealership is charging $125 to put this stuff on a car (exterior and interior).

Chad - What do you recommend regarding the 5 Star Shine products on my car? Do I need the Deluxe Kit and the Deluxe Interior Kit or just the Paint Protection Kit and Deluxe Interior Kit? My car has leather interior by the way. What is your email address?

Stay away from dealer applied "protection systems".. they are a ripoff.

For the same $595, you can get yourself a PC, some microfiber towels, plenty of products and have the satisfaction of detailing your own car to your own standard and maintain it beautifully!

You bought a Camry so you already know that the dealer stuff is a ripoff. Don't waste your $50 in that crap. Like G903 said, detail the car yourself and you'll be much happier. Welcome to Autopia and let the detailing begin!:xyxthumbs

I agree with the others. Not only is it a huge rip-off, but most dealers do a horrible job of applying any wax or sealant, usually using a rotary buffer, dirty wool pads and inferior products. I can almost guarantee they will leave buffer swirls all over your paint.

Rule number one in buying a new car is to not let the dealer wax it. Rule number two, of course is not to let them affix their stupid dealer emblem on the back of the car.

I went one step further when purchasing my baby(Black Mazda3s) and told the dealer explicitly NOT to wash it when they took it off the truck. He then proceeded to explain about all the protectants the car is coated with for shipping, which I promptly told him I would happily clean off myself, as long as his lot boys didnt touch the damn car :)

When I bought my Mustang GT 2 years ago, it came from the dealer with so many dealer 'installed' swirls I cringed when the sun hit it. Sadly I didnt know about the magical effects of compounds like DACP and PC's back then.

We did a 04 Toy Corolla today, with 54 miles on it. Clayed, Klasse Twins, Fabric Protection (not ScotchGard), and an all around cleanup, including 303.

$100 dollars, 2.25 hours.

Owner was thrilled with the difference! He would have paid 4-600 more to have the Dealer do the same stuff (and they didn't want to!)

Dealers sell a comodity. We detail cars.

madvb,

Like everyone says, the dealer stuff is a rip. Being that I am a rep for 5 Star Shine, I am partial to it. 5 Star Shine is a superior alternative to any of the dealer offered junk.

As far as your ?'s regarding the different kits...

I always recommend people to lightly clay their new cars before applying any product. Sometimes cars get junk accumulated on it from travel. You should apply a paint sealer to the cleanest surface possible.

The deluxe kit comes with the clay bar and a few extra goodies like ph balanced car wash etc. You can see them on the site.

As far as the interior, the deluxe kit comes with the leather and fabric protector. The fabric protection works amazing. Liquids bead up on it like waxed paint. Also there is a product called 'leatherique' that museums use to refinish and protect their leather pieces etc. that you might want to check out. Just google it on the net and you'll find a retailer. It is kinda pricey. The 5 Star leather protection will work great on your new leather.

You can read more about 5 Star on www.nicoclub.com www.honda-acura.net

Just search under 'star shine' and you'll see alot of threads with user reviews etc. Don't forget to use the discount code under my sig on those sites when you order.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more ?'s

Well,

I'm an F&I Manager at a car dealership, and I'll tell you that the product is immaterial, and it could be Souveran, or 5-Star, or Klasse, or Orange Juice. The value is in the warranty, but the game is played in such a way that the customer never wins.

Here's the deal.

You are in the office, and you're excited about your new car, and you want to protect it, and it only costs another $8/mo. So you do it. And all you have to do to keep the lifetime warranty is bring the car back for a checkup once a year.

Uh, how many people do you think remember to come back for the checkup?

NONE. NEVER. NEVER ONCE. NO ONE HAS EVER. As soon as the customer hits the door, he forgets about the paint sealant.

Now, I don't offer paint sealant, so don't jump on me, please! But, we do actually use a paint sealant on our cars on the lot; we use a product mentioned by the original poster, ResistAll, which is a generic aminofunctional silicone polymer that has high resistance to acid rain. We are in coal country, and a lot of people here burn coal for heat, and we get a lot of acid rain and snow. We don't charge for the stuff, though, and we don't warrant it. We do it for us. The appearance isn't all that great, but it gives us several months of protection.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I almost went ahead and schedule for a guy to come out and put Resistall on my car today. But after reading posts after posts in this forum, you guys have convinced me to try and do it myself. Just hope I know what I'm doing. To be honest, I don't like working on cars, and therefore, I'm looking for something that I can just put it on the car once and not have to worry about it for a couple of years :D

I have waxed twice on my old cars before. Got TurtleWax or something like that, did my wax on wax off, and ran a buffer/polisher on the car. That's one wax job on each old car :D Probably didn't do it right either... hehe.

I want to give 5 Star Shine a try, but not sure if I can justify with the wife about spending $150 (5 Star Shine Deluxe Kit and Deluxe Interior Kit) on this 5 Star Shine products that only comes enough for 1 car. I know we can use the "VIPDISCOUNTS" code for a discount on the products, but that is still over $100 per car. Any additional discounts for buying these 2 Deluxe Kits together Chad?

How goes it? To give you a heads up, you can easily do 2 midsize cars with one 5 Star kitas well as the deluxe interior kit. Just be sure to split up the step 1 solution... Use the step 2 polymer sparingly since you don't need to apply a thick coat. Putting it on too thick will just make it more difficult to buff off, You don't need more than a thin coat. That will cut your costs in half.

Applying it is simple. Just follow the directions. There is a great article here on autopia on how to use a clay bar correctly.

If you are looking for something that will protect for a couple of years, there isn't anything. If you want something pretty easy to use that has up to 6 months durability, get the Klasse Twins (All In One and Super Glaze). You will have enough product to use twice a year for several years for less than $50.

Wow, nice pics. By the looks of the high contrast, me thinks there's a lot of post processing. That just my opinion, I would have to see the car or cars in person or even have someone else on this forum use the stuff and then post their pics, but then again thats just me.

I enjoy detailing, to me its fun. When im nervous, mad sad or just a little upset I grab the m.f. towels and some wax and wax my car . It is good theropy for me. I laugh at the idea of spending $500.00 plus on a protection process, and not have all the fun doing it myself. It like paying someone else to go on a vacation that you always wanted to go on.

Wow, this is a tough forum.....

I get people that are skeptical (which I completely understand) and then I post some pics that customers have sent in and then I get accused of 'doctoring' them. I can see how the contrast isn't great on a few but the one of the Ferrari for sure isn't as well as the t-bird and red wagon. There are users on www.nicoclub.com and www.honda-acura.com that will vouch for the quality of 5 Star.

Also, paying $47 to have long lasting, easy to mainain protection is a far cry from $500 which is what you'll pay at a dealership for much inferior stuff.

Is the choice here really just 5 star shine vs. Xzilon? I bought a new Acura TSX a year ago. Right after I got it, I ordered the Klasse Twins. I washed, clayed, and then used BillNorth's method to apply the Klasse. Following that, I got in the habbit of washing the car once every week or so, and detailing with SONUS afterwards.

The damn thing shines like a mirror. And, I paid less than $60 for all the detailing products, and have enough to do my car again every year for the next few years.

Just spend an hour or so reading some of the advice at this site. There is a wealth of useful information here.
