5" pads and backing plate are HERE

While I was away today (OK, yesterday) USPS dropped off a small box. I knew I had only ordered one thing lately and the return address confirmed it, but, I thought, this box is way too small for 6 pads and a backing plate (plus my free pad brush).

I opened the box and Lo and Behold, there they all were, 6 brand new, still in the plastic wrapper Megs 5" flat pads and a 5" backing plate ... and my free brush.

I pulled one of the pads out of the box and thought, this little sucker is teeny! I have been using 7.5" (at least) ever since I had my PC and let me tell you, those things are GIGANTIC compared to these.

I know everyone says these small, flats perform better (cutting and polishing), but how do they handle compared to the monstrosities I had been using?

Oh yeah, that "free" brush seems awful stiff/coarse to be using on pads to clean them, it almost feels like a small tire brush.

The less mass makes them more stable but technique will still play a major role.

Here's a picture by Kevin Brown on the size differences between various buffing pad sizes.

The chart shows how much bigger my 7" pads really are ... dayum ... no wonder I was working so hard.

LOL! Those 7.5" pads are relatively worthless on you PC. Yes, the Meg's pads are smaller, but you'll get MUCH better results. Did you buy the maroon cutting pads?

Yes, I'm cheap and broke so I bought a 6-pack combo with 2 red cutting pads (I don't get many severely damaged cars) and 4 yellow polishing pads. I didn't get any finishing pads because I do my LSPs by hand. The next time I order pads, I'll get a few more cutting pads and maybe a finisher or two, just in case.

Surprisingly I got some excellent results with the 7.5s, I can't wait until I get to use the 5s.
