Greetings all,

I am a Newbie to detailcity and detailing, and this is my first post. Thanks to all others for all their posts, as I have learned greatly from all the information available here. I hope to start a new hobby keeping my family's cars looking their best and protecting the finish as long as possible.

I purchased the 4* Ultimate Paint Kit from Premium Auto Care. I am about to start on my F-150 S'crew which is about 1 year old and has only been regular Walmart-type stuff washed and waxed up to now. No major swirls or scratches that I can see, but the paint does show just normal dulling and abuse from exposure due to daily driving and outdoor parking.

I intend to wash, clay, UPC and then UPP (hopefully X 2 or 3 within a week or two).

My specific question is how to get best results from UPC with PC. I have the SONUS kit and 7424, but have never used them before.

The instructions for UPC via PAC say to "Spread Ultimate Paint Pre-Cleaner very thin. Allow to dry to a haze and then remove residue with a high quality microfiber towel." But I intend to use a PC to apply UPC since I have learned from this site that better cleaning and polishing would be achieved via machine than by hand. Therefore, I am not techinically not just wiping on and let dry to a haze, as I believe I need to work this product into the finish a little to get the most out of this step? Dry to a haze doesn't seem to apply if using a PC.

Which pad(s) do you recommend?

What method would you recommend for applying the UPC by PC?

Any other general "tricks" or advice you can suggest with these products?

I intend to remove all residue by hand with MF supplied in kit.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It will pretty much "dry" as you are working it, just apply it to the pad, then to a small section of paint and work it until it is almost gone, then wipe away.

I like to use polishing pads to apply it.

The learning curve is VERY short with this product. You will have the hand of it by the second panel.

Great product.

Good luck!!

Welcome to DC!
Disclaimer: I have not used UPC.
The UPC being, I think, a paint cleaner and polish, a polishing pad would be my choice. A speed of 4 or 5 seems to work good with polishes for me.
I tend to agree with working the product some when using the PC. If you work it until you no longer see it and then wipe it off with a MF towel, I would think you would have a good prep for your UPP.
FWIW, I think I would try applying the UPC to a couple of sections and then wiping it off those sections to verify that you are getting the results you are wanting.
I happen to use AIO and wipe it from each section as I am doing the vehicle.

I like polishing pads with cleaners myself too. I would apply it with a few dime-sized spots on the pad and with the PC at 4.0-5.0. Start out slow and work 2 x 2 ft sections at a time.

Green or Blue???

Thanks for your input so far.

I believe the SONUS kit has a green polishing pad and a blue polishing pad. Which one would work best with the UPC?

And then I can go directly to applying the first coat of UPP with the grey finishing pad, right??

Subsequent coats of UPP by hand after 24 hour intervals.

I have not tried them myself, but from my understanding of your paint and the pads, I would use the blue to apply the UPC.

Then the finishing pad for the UPP.

FWIW, I would apply two thin coats back to back to ensure even coverage, then wait 24 hours and apply one more. After that IMO it is all self gratification.
