3m SMR too many times?

How many times can you use this product before you are in danger of going through the clear coat? I am getting a pc this weekend to get out the swirls I have not been able to get out by hand and want to make sure I am not in danger of going through the clear because I have already used 3m smr or meguiars swp a handful of times on parts of the car, mainly the hood. My thinking is I am being too concerned since these products are both very fine abrasives, but I would rather be cautious than sorry.
 
I don't think you should be worried. By hand it'll take ages to wear through clear. With a PC it may take a life time with the products you are using which are pretty mild. Congrats on the Pc. Your finish will dazzle you in the end. Much better than hand polishing. Which pads did you purchase for the PC?

I am going to use the white pads from cma. The swirl marks I have are very very fine so I think the white pads and 3m smr or meguiars swp should get the job done.
 
Just remember to search the archives and read alBoston's swirl removal with PC article, very informative.

jpws6 - I'm usually cautioning people about how fragile the clearcoat is, but in your case, I'm with Jason. If your swirls are mild enough to remove with a SMR/white combo, you're lucky. You really DON'T have to worry about going through the clear with that stuff, especially if you only use it infrequently.

Thanks for the peace of mind. I think I can get them out with only a white pad and 3m smr as they are very faint. They were coming out by hand, but it was just taking forever to break the product down all the way, if I did not break it down I would get some slight hazing. I just picked up my pc from lowes $99 + tax with the 10% coupon.
