3M PI-III MG doesn't darken?

I got my 3M 05937 in yesterday and tried a test area under fluorescent lighting - this is on fresh black paint. The only thing on the car beforhand is 3M IHG. By hand, the MG did a decent job polishing out some light swirling - and it of course removed the IHG the was previously on the test area.

But... the newly polished area is definitely not as slick as the IHG only portion next to it. Also, the MG patch is not as slick and not as dark as the IHG only. At a certain angles, it almost has a cloudy appearence. Cloudy may not be the best description... it almost had a blueish reflection whereas the IHG only area really deepened the black paint.

My questions are, should MG be slick and dark or just squeeky clean? I IHG'd over the MG and the darkness and slickness came back but I don't want it to be like repairing the polished area. Even the newly wet sanded and buffed area with NO products or polish yet felt slicker and looked darker than the just MG'd area - that had me a little concerned.

IMO 3m did a poor job naming that product. the IHG is indeed a glaze :an oily product that fills defects anbd glossens up paint also the slick feeling you experience; the PI III MG is better called a final or light polish--it has no fillers so whatever it didn't polish out will remain to be seen.

I noticed the same thing with the MG. I just went over it again with AIO and the slickness was back. Of course, now it has 4* UPP over that, so it's slick as hell now.

MG has no fillers in it. IHG is loaded with them. It is the oils and fillers in IHG that darken the paint and give it a slick feeling. MG should leave the paint squeeky clean.

I don't know what is happening with the cloudy look you are getting from MG. I would have to see it to know for sure. It sounds like it could be hazing from not working the product completely. This would be more easily seen on a black car like yours. Try a finer polish after MG see if that clears it up.

Oh I understand that... and those were the purposes I was using each product for... IHG for fresh paint to give a decent look and a little protection. I just tested a little MG to see how it works. It removed some light swipe marks like I'd hoped. The surface however was left looking less dark and less slick than I hoped. I remember the wetsanded and buffed surface being darker and slicker BEFORE IHG than the MG'd area I did. I just don't want to be harming anything with the MG, or not applying correctly since I'm doing it by hand.

I think you're right about not working the product... There was a bit left on the fringes of the area I was testing - that dried and it was really tough to remove. I noticed that the MG takes a while to work until its buffed completely - possibly because I'm doing it by hand.
