3M Perfect-it pads, any good?

97FLAIRSIDE

I like blue! :oP
I stopped by the local paint supply shop hoping to pickup some new megs pads. Well they didn't have any, only 3m. I asked which i could use on the PC, and they showed me a few but all had like 8" velcro pads. I found 2 that had 5" velcro pads. the pads themselves are nubby. I've never used anything like this before. I have currently the megs starter kit and have had no problems till my cutting pad fell apart. I picked up a 3m cutting and polishing to have a second one. But im a lil weary at this time to use them.

Can anyone tell me if these will be good to use?

Are they the black Perfect It Glazing pads, or the orange Buffing pads? I have both. The glazing ones are that convoluted foam (looks like sound deadener) and have the hook on the back, not the loop. So you'll need a different backing plate.
I found the black ones work great on a PC or rotary. They are fairly gentle. I used them for applying glaze on a black Lexus with no issues.

The orange ones I have are the 5" ones and have a semi-convoluted face. They are fairly firm and great for working on defects. The look is on the pad, so your regular backer should work.

The white pad is the cut pad. Black is the finish/polish pad. Have never used them on a PC. But they work extremely well on a high speed buffer. They are a bit pricey. Look like egg cartons.

Is the hook on the pad or the loop? If the loop (soft stuff) is on the pad then it will work. There is a difference between 3Ms Hookit and 3M Perfect It Hookit II part# 05739.

The HookitII has the hook on the pad, not the loop. The black glazing pads I use have that configuration. The orange buffing pads have the loop.

The glazing pad I have is this one...Black glazing pad

The buffing pads I have is this one... Orange buffing pads

A lot of this stuff is hard to find, but most reputable body shops and OEM factories use them exclusively.

I'll double check to make sure they'll fit. But im getting conflicting stories that i can use them on the pc.
