3M Paint Protection Film and detailing...?

I probably know the answer to this, as it seems logical, but who knows... :wink1:

Does 3M Protection Film that can be put on hoods, fenders, etc. (to help protect the paint from stone chips, etc.) interfere with detailing?

I guess what I am asking is - will the car look "not as good" with this 3M Protection Film on; and will you be able to see it on a new shiny detailed car...?

Thanks as always!

As with anything it depends on the installer and the product used. If a quality film is applied by a competent installer there should be very little evidence film is there at all. Treat it like paint (be delicate, keep it sealed) and you're good to go.

I would suggest that you cover the edge where the film meets the paint with 1/16 fineline tape before polishing. This keeps your polisher from packing product against the edge of the film. I see alot of cars come through that have been waxed by customers or other shops without protecting it or properly cleaning the edge and it gets a white edge where it would normally be hard to notice. Its alot harder to get out after its baked in.
