3M Headlight Restoration

My mother in-law asked if I could do her fix her headlights. I seen the 3M Headlight Restoration at walmart. Has anyone tried it, or heard anything good?

Good question. I've seen the kit in walmart and mostly any auto store. For normal oxidized lenses, I got a cheap foam pad for my drill and use plast-x for polishing them. For more complex cases, I've wet sanded, going as low as needed then finishing with 3000 grit and continue the plast-x routine.

I got great results using the kit. I didn't use the P500 that came with it, instead I wetsanded with 600 by hand. There is some noticeable sandinging marks up close. I think this can be elimated by adding finer grits to the process after 800. (kit inckludes 500 > 800 > 3000)

The 500 is great, and so is the 800, but they need a middle step like 1500 before doing the 3000. I say use the kit, but do 1200, then 2000 by hand then use the 3000. The results will speak for themselves.

I find that even on bad headlights that Meguiars 2000 unigrit paper works fine. Follow with #105 and #205 via rotary.
