3M detailing tape leftovers on weatherstripping...

So how do I get it off? I pulled the tape off and there is lots of the sticky stuff left on my weatherstripping near my windows that I can't get off. Any recommendations?

goo gone (maybe, it works on paint, dunno about rubber weatherstripping), trim restorer, AIO. All are good at getting sticker residue off so it should work for tape residue. They won't discolor the stripping either.

yellow detailing tape. Got any clue how to get this stuff off?

I suggest an adhesive remover like 3M's or Four Stars. I also suggest throwing that roll of tape away! ;)

use the blue tape and that will not happen anymore. I had the same problem when i first decided to tape off my trim. personally rather than tape it off im just extra careful around the trim and weather stripping......then again it's my own car so it's not a big deal

I've used the blue tape and had it leave residue on my plastic/rubber trim. I find the beige masking tape works really well and leaves no residue.

I use the flourescent green tape also. It doesn't leave behind any reside whatsoever.

I've been happy with the masking tape so far. However, I'm going to have to try some flourescent green.

Blue Painters tape is made for easy release up to 14 days. It was designed for interior home painting, not automotive. It still works somewhat for that application, but is not the ideal solution. You will see some adhesive transfer if heat or solvents get to it.

Green Fine Line tape is the better solution. It was designed to be applied to painted panels, most often used to mask cars and also for custom painting like flames and pinstriping.

Yellow masking tape is the "do everything, but nothing all that well" tape. It's a pretty universal tape. If it's fresh, it's not a bad choice, but it is fairly aggressive. Remove immediatly when you are done, it is effected by solvents, heat and time more than the blue and green tapes.

When applying any of these tapes for detailing purposes, you dont' need to apply too much pressure, just use enough to stick. Rubbing it down isn't needed.

Try blotting at the residue with some regular masking tape. That adhesive should grab and remove the residue from the weatherstripping.
