As a moderator of Autopia and detailer who goes threw many many products and supplies, out of curiosity I began to do some research on pricing. After getting a free sample of HD Uno 3. ( a perk of being a mod! ) I thought why not buy some stuff from 3D to support the owners who run the forum. Like many of you I'm trying to find ways to make money and not waste it. Generally its easy to fall into the new flavor of the week only to find its a great product or just something else that will sit on the shelf with wasted money. One of the biggest things that really saves money outside of chemicals is accessories and tools to help a detailer out. I was schocked by the vast aray of accessories that 3D has on the company page. Theres no special name for these products. There just called what they are called without the marketing hype. Below are are a few examples of what I'm talking about.

Example one are those great Foam cannons that I love!!

Autogeekonline.net has them for $119.00 see link below.

Results for foam cannon - Search

Here is one from 3dproducts.com for $79.99

3D Car Care; Car Wash, Car Wax, Auto Detailing supplies, Car Polishers, Car Buffers & accessories store

How can a company like autogeek justify a $40.00 difference? For the same tool?

Next up is these awesome things! I love these for dressing tires!

This one is from adam's polishes for example. this one is $6.95 for theres!

Adam's Hex-Grip Pro Tire Dressing Applicator

Here is the exact same thing threw 3D products for only $2.99

Zero Mess Applicators - Apply Tire Gel with HD Gel Pad | 3D Products

For me you can get 2 from 3dproducts for the price of one from adams? How is this possible?

Next thing, I love these things!! I know those darn wool pads.

Here is the Megs. version from autogeekonline.net for $24.99 I will say these are great pads! I enjoy them, but......

Meguiars Double Sided 100% Wool Cutting Pad, compounding pad, Meguiar's Double-sided wool pad

There are only so many pad makers out there! Ill bet by trying this one as opposed to the megs version you may find a huge similarity and there five dollars cheaper!

Double Sided Wool Polishing Pad for Scratches & Swirl Marks Removal

These are just a few samples that I have seen and there are many more. Just thought I would help some fellow detailers save money. You may want to check out 3D Car Care in depth and find more great deals! I found some others, but I can't share all my secrets with you gentleman. Have a great day and thanks 3dproducts for saving me some coin!

Q: How does Autogeek justify $40 more for their foam canon?

A: Just like a Honda Civic, the decal on the bottle adds 10HP

Yep, luckily I was able to get for about that several years ago. Barry, wise man you are; if you listen to him, you're the Clark Howard of Autopia! :)

Where can you find the attachment adapters for different pressure washers? I know AG has them pictured with their foam cannons, but I don't want to pay almost double just for those adapters!

I'd try lowes, home depot, places like that.. you only get one with the AG cannons but I got 2 with mine from amazon.

Great thread Barry. I hope it will atleast have people thinking about how many companies mark up their products due to marketing. Not quality.

The biggest rediculousness is clay & carnuba wax. All clay and waxes cost about the same to manufacturer (within a small ballpark), yet the prices are all over the map.

It's usually a great idea to buy products from the manufacturer. Like 3D. Some companies call themselves "manufacturers" but in reality the only thing they manufacturer are the labels that go on the bottle they're buying from the real manufacturer.

some very good points discussed here, glad to see that some arent sold on "packaging" all the time and have done their homework for themselves... :thumb:

Could not agree with you guys more.

Or you can do a google search of Foam Cannon/Lance and come up with one on Amazon for less then 50bucks. Same bottle, same plastic, same design etc etc.

Detailing is no different from anything else you can buy with different label stamped/sticker on it.
