36 Year Old Cars

I have a 1968 Mustang I just purchased and want to detail it. It hasn't been touched in 17 years but has been under a cover. All of the information I have read seems to be geared towards detailing the newer clear coat finishes.

Should I use the same steps to compound, polish, glaze and wax my old car?

If I use clay. Should I use it prior to compounding?

I think the paint is in good enouph condition to bring back to a beautiful shine but don't want to screw it up in the process of trying to make it look better.

I have never used anything but my hands polish and wax to detail my cars in the past. This one needs more than that.

Any input would be most appreciated.
