2800 honda pressure washer w/cat pump?????

I have a 2800 honda pressure washer with direct drive cat pump and was wondering after every use should i disconnect the hose connected from the water tank to the pressure washer? I am wondering if it is bad to have the water from the tank sitting in the pressure washer? thank you all in advance

Most Pressure pumps use stainless steal, Brass, aluminium and cooper. all are susceptible to corrosion.

I have used the same Karcher for over 25 years and ever time I was done I running the unit I allways cool down the heating coil, then disconnected the inlet hose and ran the pump dry to push out any water in the heating coil.

I have had heating coils go bad on me from hydrogen sulfide. eating the stainless steal coil out from the inside.

check your owners manual to see what the long term storage procedures are.
and go from there.

Do NOT run your pump dry if you DO NOT have ceramic pistons and cylinders.

You shouldn't run any pump dry......
Running a pump with ceramic pistons dry can cause them(the ceramics pistons) to crack.Not to mention it's bad for the seals and other internal parts due to excessive heat build up.



If you don't want the water feeding the machine from the tank,just install a banjo valve in the line between the two.

For 14+ years I ran the same pump connected to a water tank in my trailer. The only issue I ever had was leaving the wand disconnected from the pressure hose. Because the hose end was lower than the water level in the tank, it would cause water to weep out. I would end up loosing 20-30 gallons overnight. I cured this by installing a ball style shut-off valve up stream of the pump (on the inlet side) which I now shut off every time I finish using the pressure washer. I would not recommend running your pump dry unless there is a chance of it freezing, in which case I would check with your manufactures recommendations.
