#26 Bad Smearing (searched)

I am using #26 on a black Skyline. It only seems to smear or haze when the car has been sitting in the sun a long time.(after the wax has been applied and buffed off)

If the car is driven at nights only (when its cool) i dont get any smearing or hazing.

I have tried to apply thinly

I have tried QD when its gets hazy

I have tried a spritz of distilled water.

I have tried to buff it off, after the car has been washed, but it dosnt seem to clear the haze just makes more hazing.

I always apply the product in the garage where the paint is cold.

none of these above seem to work effectivly in clearing this haze.

I have a coat of mothers SG under the #26 currently.

The best method i have found is to just put a very thin coat of Mothers SG (but wastes the product), or a thin coat of #26 again to clear the haze, BUT once it gets heated again its back to the hazing, and this method does take a while, if u have to do it after every wash.

Is there any other way to PREVENT the hazing, rather than fixing it after it occurs.

Please any suggestions would be great

Thanks

interesting dilemma... the only thing I could think is that somehow the mother's SG and the #26 don't like eachother on a chemical-bond level, so when they heat up they react to form a haze.... might try switching one or the other for a different product (might I suggest Meg's #7 Glaze instead of mothers glaze, or #20 if you're looking for a poly sealant)

also forgive me but I am at a loss as to what a "skyline" is.... thanks.

and Welcome to Autopia! :xyxthumbs

The Skyline is Nissan's "supercar"- all wheel drive, twin turbo rocket.

As for the smearing - when was the last time the paint was deep cleaned with a straight cleaner (Mothers Pre-Wax Cleaner, Mirror Glaze #2, etc)?

I've seen instances where there are numerous layers of build up (especially since Meguiar's reformulated #26 about 5-6 years ago) that would cause the streaking.

How many coats of #26 are on the paint since it was prepped last?

I did a dawn wash x 2

claybar

Dawn wash again

Megs smr 2.0 (this was done about 1.5weeks ago)

Then mothers SG x2

then megs #26 x 2

The car was in the sun for a bit, then got smearing straight away, noticed it a lot at the petrol station.

Now have about 4 to 6 coats of #26 on the car, because i kept applying after the smearing appeared, to try help the smearing (which it did), but then it just comes back.

Where i am i dont have that good range of products compared to U.S.

Can get the mothers range, megs commercial and only limited megs professional line (#20 or #7 not available afik).

I would bet the 2 coats of #26 are the problem. I would always get that same haze if I put on two coats on the same day, or if I put it over MPPP on the same day. If you want it to look nice, I'd say strip it off and reapply just one coat. If you want a second coat, wait until the next week you wash to apply it.

If you don't want to strip it, I was able to clear up the haze by applying Souveran on part of the car. But I don't think that's the kind of fix you are looking for. I don't know why the multiple coats cause a problem, but I'm quite certain that's what it was. I've never had that problem when I just applied one coat of #26 on top of a glaze (or on top of Blackfire).

Have never had hazing problems when applying coat after coat on the same day of megs 26, but my car is light blue so it might not show?

I'm guessing it's the multi coats of #26 as well. Since they added oils to that product several years ago, this can be a problem if the vehicle isn't washed between application of #26.

Are you using the paste version of #26?

of laying down to much product.

- Make sure to apply thin coats.

- Wash or at least spritz the car with water (Distilled perferably)and wipe with a microfiber between coats.

- Wait a few days to a week between coats.

There really isn't much of an advantage to layer wax coats. Considering the solvents etc. in the wax, you're not trully layer the wax. It's more like a french polish where you continually work the layer that's there already. The only advantage is that if you missed a spot, you more likely to even coverage.

I am using the paste version of #26 and always make sure that it goes on very thinly

Im have just put some Mothers pure carnuaba (liquid type) on it to remove the hazing and then wait some time before the #26 goes back on.

This also happens to me whenever I use IHG and the I top it off with #26.......I thought it was me who wasnt buffing right, although I used a damp towel after buffing......the hood would haze a lot at night, specially in the zone where the headers are......and the same would happen after leaving the car in the sun for some hours......

I washed the car, and now it looks DOPE :)

There seems to be a problem with using IHG or a polish and topping with #26, maybe some compatibility problems due to the different brands....

mothers sealer and glaze and #26(paste) are compatible. I had the combo on my civic for 4 weeks b4 i stripped it and it was still beading good with no hazing. Just make sure you don't apply too much of the #26, bc its really hard to get off the car. Course, i left mine on over night b4 i took it off, ended up being a bit better in durability:).

I agree, and I used this exact combo on a friend's black car. I read this thread eariler but for some reason the fact that I'd used these together slipped my mind... :nixweiss
