DISO DISO DISO! Dealer Installed Swirl Option was in effect here! 154 miles on this supercharged 680+HP beast. FULL/every panel of swirls. Just horrible...

The 'details':

McKee's37 iron remover and Hydro Blue.
Adam's shampoo, glass cleaner, interior detailer, wheel cleaner, tire&rubber, graphene tire dressing.
Fine clay.
Master blaster/drying towels to dry.
HF FR Hercules machinery.
LC pads.
Griots FCC and Perfecting cream.
Optimum panel wipe.
Aquatek Singular ceramic coating.
Metro vacuum.

Bonkers cars these things. Looks amazing now, as it should. Dealerships like this should be ashamed of themselves, any car costs alot today, and ones like this beast are well over the $100 mark. And car dealships sell.... cars. Thats what they do. You would think dealerships take pride in the cars and care for them. Nope.

There's a hundred reasons why this happens, not the least of which is, to quote Mike Phillips, "most people don't know a swirl from a squirrel", ranging to it's a volume business, the people that are washing these cars are (or close to) the lowest-paid people at the dealership, etc. etc.

Back when this forum had so much activity that you couldn't keep up with it, people would come in with their stories about the dealers saying "that's just the way black cars are", etc.
 
Two Captain Obvious questions, Sizzle Chest:
Why the use of fine clay?
Was there something on this paint that needed to be removed that a "usual" clay mitt could not remove OR is it your standard operating procedure NOT to use clay mitts on black GM paint because it is soft? (No, I do NOT know the hardness or softness characteristics of current production GM black paint; I am guessing)

How did this v-spec drive? Hard to make an accurate assessment driving it in and out of your garage only, BUT you must get some feel for it.

I could ask if this black paint's condition required extra time and effort to perfect to your personal standards.
Excellent detailing. Darth Vader's Black Car Collection (DVBCC?) has ANOTHER ultra-shiny vehicle in his stable visually perfected by Sizzle Chest !
(What, no comment about the fluorescent yellow T-shirt, Captain Obvious? You are slippin' up.....Quit laughing!)

The surface didn't need anything more than a fine clay to remove the minimal contamination, and I didn't want to put more swirls/defects into it if I didn't have to.

The paint was on the soft side.

I wish I could've driven it! It sounded great, clutch was light, gear shift was solid and precise.

It wasn't terribly finicky like some I've had, so no, it didn't take anything additional/another finishing step thank goodness.

LOL, of course you had to mention the shirt!!
 
With the emphasis on the paint I kind of glossed (so to speak) right over the 680 HP. Since I'm 39 (thank you Jack Benny), and with someone posting on the other forum about a 775 HP Ram...with all the belly-aching about regulation, etc., it's still pretty amazing that you can go into a GM or Dodge dealer and just get something 600-700 HP (after plunking down a lot of money). I think if you went back in a time machine to 40 years ago, 680 HP would not be on anyone's bingo card for 2026.

Wait--let's be real--if we went back 40 years everybody thought we'd have flying cars powered by Mr. Fusion....which of course brings me back to the spaceship headrests, as I posted over on AGO.

I concur! It is crazy the performance/power of modern day vehicles...compared to 40 yrs ago, or hell, even 10!

And again, I LOVE those seats!
 
AND add to the fact that this performance vehicle comes with a 6-speed MANUAL transmission in this day-and-age when many new car manufacturers are eschewing and abandoning it (like the Corvette or Ferrari) makes it a real "unicorn" in today's new-car production. Kudos to GM's Cadillac division for even doing this. Granted, there is the Rev Match button which does add some automatonic wizardry to replace that human driving skill set, but it is selectable by the driver to help them if they so desire.
This truly is a driver's vehicle.
I just wish Cadillac would offer a wagon/touring/shooting brake version of it, similar to what was ended in 2014. Even if it was available with an automatic transmission (GM's skunk-works performance dual-clutch) only, I am sure they could sell a few to those families with a wannabe Formula 1 driver dad and a take-the-kids-to-practice (pick a sport or activity) mom.
Those used performance V-spec Wagons are selling almost at the same price when they were new; very unusual for a more recent used car to not depreciate so much, especially GMs.

Speaking of Rev Matching with manual transmissions, have any of you Autopians practiced (and mastered) that driving skill set of toe-and-heeling and rev matching with your driving of your own vehicle equipped with a manual transmission??
I tried it, but never "mastered" that driving skill. It is like trying to play "Flight of the Bumble Bee" on a piano for someone who can barely play "Chopsticks"!! And yes, I tried and over-revved a "few" times or missed properly braking at a critical point before a corner and panicked ... Don't ask about the the seat-of-the-pants-feeling, if you know what I mean!!!

I'm amazed at how some new cars looked like they been washed with a brillo pad.
...and when you talk to the owner on the phone they say..."It's brand new. The paint is perfect! It only has 9,000 mile on it!"

GREAT Job! It looks like is should!
