2017 Fiat spider

Is this the result of Fiat`s and Mazda`s "joint" sports car development that been talked about in the automotive world?? If it looks a lot like a Miata (MX-5), it probably is. Fiat "tweaked" Mazda body and frame with Fiat running gear.

Reminds me of the soon-to-be defunct Scion (all models will be assimilated under and with the Toyota nameplate) and Subaru joint venture of the FR-S and BRZ, respectively. More Subaru than Scion, which may be a good thing.

Seeing how Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA) plans are to phase out small sedan production (200 and Dart models), I guess they had to do something with the 1400cc Multi-Air turbo engines.
Fiats have never gotten "the love" from enthusiasts due to their reliability and quality issue. Too bad they do not make a modern re-designed retro of the mid-engine X1/9. How about a Abarth X1/9 Turbo?? Camaros and Mustangs are good examples of the popularity of the retro look with modern mechanicals and suspension.

Reminds me of the Saturn Sky / Pontiac Solstice.
Good point!! Neither GM division/nameplate survives today. GM`s at-the-time CEO Bob Lutz`s must-have baby. Too bad; they were nice cars, but like all GM sports cars that "compete" with the Corvette, they get the ax just at the height of their popularity and development.
Reminds me of what happened to the Pontiac Fiero. Bring out a GT with a V-6 and refined Chevette/Citation suspension (remember this is what it was "cobbled" from!), then ax the car.

INDEED. The 88 fiero was the best. New suspension etc. Then they AXED IT? Still holds a place in my heart. Had a 85- 4cyl then a 87- 6cyl. FUN CARS. Who would have thought PONTIAC going by the wayside? I always thought their designs were cutting edge. Imagine if the fiero and Trans AM would have evolved!!

A family friend will be getting one of these soon and I told him I would detail it for free if he taught me to drive manual in it lol

Welcome to Fiat. There cars don`t sell here so they make there car into a "Jeep". Which America can`t resist a small suv/cuv whatever they want to call them now

Now they just put a multi air noisy ass engine into a Miata and put there badge on it.

Pretty lack luster. Get a real Mazda if you want a real Mazda. Fiat will not make it better

Goodness it is pretty...

Yeah, I *do* like its looks much better than the Miata. The Miata has become too ugly for me to even enjoy glancing at, let alone owning. No. Ugly. Vehicles.

While I get the "but it`s slower...buy a real Miata!" point of view and I`m not a big fan of Badge-Engineering, I bet a lot of people would rather have looks that they like than more performance. Too bad it`s a trade-off though.

Wonder how the Dealer Networks are gonna be able to deal with servicing. I`d have some degree of confidence that a Mazda dealer could fix a Miata (only "some" as they sure couldn`t fix my MPV), but who`s gonna be the "experienced Fiat Spider" expert at those dealerships?

I actually still like the new Miata, myself.

Although the performance trade off stinks, I`m sure the automotive world will easily find plenty of way to compensate the Fiat for it`s innate deficit

The interior of the car appears to be quite nice...I did a double-take after they took the car down off that lift system.

Eh, that`s just me being me :D My tastes might be a bit outside the mainstream these days...the whole "big grille opening" thing simply turns me off so there aren`t all that many cars I like any more. I really liked the early Miatas with their smaller grilles.

Heh heh, the newest Audis I like are from the 2005 lineup.
