I literally LIVE in the shadows of Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers. How any team will finish depends on how injury-free starting players can stay through the course of the regular season for ANY team at any position. The Packers found that out with the lose of All-Pro wide receiver Jordy Nelson last year to an pre-season ACL injury.
Predictions:
NFC champion: Carolina Panthers
AFC champion: Cincinnati Bengals
Biggest NFC "disappointment": Green Bay Packers (Great offense, no defense; a 9 and 7 season is NOT a "good season".)
San Francisco 49`ers (take a knee,...."nuff said)
Biggest AFC "disappointment": Houston Texans (Still got "problems")
Best NFC "surprise " team: Minnesota Vikings (new stadium does wonders, especially for the kicking game.... "nuff" said...)
Best AFC "surprise team: Cleveland Browns (may not win division, but will "surprise" some teams it plays)
Worst NFC team: Detroit Lions (same old-same-old, nothing has changed)
Worst AFC team: San Diego Chargers (time to move to Las Vegas and become the Gamblers OR St. Louis and become the River Aces.)
On a completely different note, (but related), I wish the NFL would NOT protect quarterbacks like "primadonas with dresses". That, and the pass interference/illegal conact calls for pass receivers (tight ends, running backs, and wide receivers). Pro football has become a pass-oriented, high scoring game with little consideration for the defense.
That said, no one likes the "2 yards and a cloud of dirt" run game anymore or 13-10 score games. This game has "evolved" to the way its played today, the rules changed to "promote" this type of game, and the stadiums are as full of fans as ever. Cannot argue with success or the money the NFL generates. It is what it is.
Best rule change in the last 50 years is moving the extra point kick attempt after touchdown back to the 15 yard line and putting some "drama" into what used to almost automatic. I would also like to see the 2-point conversion attempt moved back to the 5 yard line, instead of the current 3, making more difficult to "go for it"(really it`s the "anti-Cam Newton-jump-over-the-defensive-line-and-reach-out-and-score" rule). Also any field goal try over 55 yards should be worth 4 points, not 3 (except at Mile-high Denver Stadium!! Just kidding, Bronco fans).
