Hey guys, It has been a while since I posted anything; just been really busy with my full time job. Anyway, I picked up a 2012 Acura MDX (Traded in my TL) last week. I couldn't beat the deal. Anyway, I figured I would switch it up from the white on my TL to black on the MDX. Of course, you all know not to expect much from a dealership when it comes to prep. I almost wanted to tell them not to touch it, but a few years ago, I bought a Saturn Sky in black and the dealership detailer did an awesome job...no swirls, etc...so I figure I would let them prep it.
Long story short, when I went to pick it up it was all scratched and swirled. I pointed it out to the salesman, and he told me that while I do the paperwork, he will take it back to the "detail shop" and have them polish it again. My response was "If it came out looking like this the first time, how much worse will it be the second time?" I told him not to bother, and I would properly detail it when I get home.
After all the paperwork was done, I stepped outside to see my new ride. The salesman commented on how nice black is, and I agreed that it does look nice when properly prepped. He then proceeds to tell me that after it is all polished out, the cars sit in front until the customer picks it up. He likes to keep a towel in his desk and wipe the cars down that he sells just prior to the customer picking it up. He pulls an old ratty dish towel out of his back pocket...and before I can get anything out of my mouth, he said, I wiped yours down this morning. :frusty:
So, maybe the detail shop didn't do this to my new vehicle. Anyway, I brought it home last week and finally had a day off to properly prep it. I don't have any before pictures as I just wanted to get it done and finish up some other things I have to do around the house. Anyway, here is what was used followed by some after pics:
Two Bucket Wash with Megs HyperWash and sea sponge
Polished with M105 on Yellow Cutting Pad (was suprised to see that this Acura paint was "Atypical" and was rather hard.
Finished with PO85RD on Orange Light Cutting Pad
Sealed with AG SRP & EGP
Topped with Dodo Juice Double Wax
Wheels cleaned with Megs Wheel Brightener
Wheels sealed with Collinite Insulator Wax.
Tires dressed with Opti-Bond Tire Gel
