2011 Jaguar XFR Redux

My name is Mike
Sorry I have been away for a while. Have taken my OCD to a new hobby: wet shaving - shaving soap, brush, bowl, & old-school safety razor (not brave enough for straight razor). Or, as one of my friends colorfully referred to it, "detailing my face." Still detailing cars but mostly more of the maintenance/production type. Weather has a lot to do with that, too.

This is a returning customer (http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums/detailers-showcase/41158-2011-jaguar-xfr.html) from Houston. In the 15 months since I last saw it, it was a bit worse for wear with minor (and some not so minor) swirls, a heavy covering of TX road grime, wheels & exhaust tips in serious need of love, interior, etc. Jason AKA MugelloM took part in the festivities.

Back under water restrictions so started off with a trip to the coin-op to (hopefully) remove some of the less cemented on grime. Then 2 hours on the wheels with the Dupray, PBW Spray & Rinse, brushes, sponges & terry towels. Came out OK but really need to be taken off the car to get done up right. TIps were addressed with a bug sponge + P21S Polishing Soap (the included sponge has long since given up the ghost) + Dupray.

Rinselessed with ONR. "Clayed" with Nanoskin Autoscrub Pad + GG6 + ONR (me) and Nanoskin Autoscrub Speed Prep Sponge Medium + Dodo Juice Born Slippy (Jason).

The car unearthed revealed the swirls and some waterspotting. It took 5 attempts to find a polishing combo the took care of the defects but that didn't stick to the paint.

And the winner is... RUPES + LC CCS White + Megs M205!! (The crowd goes wild!! :) ) Cameos were made by RUPES MF Polishing Pad for the rougher spots, GG6 + LC 3" Hydrotech Tangerine for the tight spots and GG6 + LC 3" Hydrotech Crimson for the B-pillars.

And protection goes to... Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Paint Coating.

Leather cleaned with Lexol Leather Cleaner + horsehair brush + Dupray with triangular head attachment/MF. Rest of the interior was steamed and then cleaned/protected with Megs QID. Vacuuming by Rigid. Tire dressing provided by Wolfgang.

Was raining when arrived so no Befores. Sun was going down when we finished 8 hours later so no sun shots. These will have to do.

Thanks for viewing. Questions encouraged.

Thanks Todd, Ron and Steve.

Yes, transformed a chore into something I look forward to.

Waiting on my latest acquisition: the complete Above the Tie set. $600!!! Can definitely get quality razors for less (& I have). The best bargain is probably be the Weber Polished Head. $70 for an all stainless, made in USA work of art. Quality ones all the way down to $20.

There is a huge amount of carry over. Prep is the key. Quality HW & SW make it easier to get great results.

Interesting (to me, anyway), boar hair brushes are the low end. Todd needs to put out a BF Manchurian Silvertip BADGER brush! It would cost a fortune but even I might use on paint. ;)

This is my car and Mike and his crew of 1 did yet another outstanding detail on it. It does look as good as it did 15 months ago. I think it looks better than new. The interior was getting the 5 year old grandchild treatment and all that is GONE! The interior is beautiful again.

I swear I got better gas mileage just slipping through the air driving home.

Thanks, Mike.
