2008 Black Chevy Silverado - scratch removal with 7424

Hello all -



I need some help. I have a 2008 Silverado Crew Cab - gloss black with the chrome Denail package on it. I bought it new last year and it the NY winter has done a job on it... not to mention the snow brush.



I can ususally get surface swirls, holograms, webs, etc. out using my 7424 but I have some scratches in the clearcoat that your finger-nail cannot grab but I cannot remove them. It's driving me freakin' nutz.



These are the materials I have - could I get some insight on what else I could use or maybe I just didn't spend the time on it to remove them.



Sonus Products - all bought from Autopia Car Care.

Do I have a something that should remove these scratches? The surface is smooth and slick and looks good; but these scratches are noticeable in the bright sun.



I tried the SFX1 combo and it minimized it maybe a bit but I think these should be able to be removed. I could wet-sand them but I wouldn't think that would be necessary... yet.



Any help would be appreciated. I have done a few cars and my truck is my toughest so far:grrr

Yep. Bust out the SFX1 with the most aggressive pad and that should diminish or remove the more serious swirls.



Make sure you are going nice and slow, allowing the polish to break down completely. You may need to use multiple hits to remove them.



And you will probably want to finish up with a less agressive combo to polish out any micromarring.
 
Well - this is what I did... I used the SFX1 with the Yellow cutting pad and it minimized it and then I followed up with the Swirl Buster polish and the panel is flawless other that the group of scratches. You cannot feel them but on a black with no metallic in it it really shows up in the sun as lines.



Do I need to step up to a compound? Thoughts?



I also started looking over the other panels and the doors have a very rough feel to them - almost like there are the micro rocks embedded in the clearcoat. Our winter in upstated NY is rough on a car. They use some rough stuff on the roads from SWP Corp. WOuld my first step be to clay it smooth using the green or gray?

Yes you would probably want to clay it.



And it sounds like you need more than one hit of the SFX1. But if you want to bump up to a more aggressive solution, then go for it.
