Little bit of paint work/detail I finished up today.

Used:
House of Kolor KD3000 primer/sealer
Sherwin Williams ATX Basecoat
Sherwin Williams Clearcoat
Denibbed with 3m 1500 dry followed by 3000 wet
Buffed with LC Orange Pad with 3D AAT
Polished with LC Blue pad with 3D Polish
Meguiars on interior
Turtle Wax Trim Restore on exterior trim










 
Thanks guys I appreciate it. Keep in mind I do a lot of this in my garage. If it's a full respray I will take it to a booth; otherwise I will do it here at my house. I put plastic up to cover things I don't want overspray on. I have 2 attic fans that I built an enclosure for. They use standard paint both filters. I also have a fresh air breathing system that I keep the main control in the house and have a union that connects into the garage so I have fresh air to breathe. I always wear a full paint suit and hood so I'm covered from head to toe. Just showing you guys that this stuff can be done in your garage and still be able to filter the paint before it exhausts into the air.


 
Where are you located. I'd love to learn how to spray color.

That seems like a pretty ideal vehicle to repair/repaint since the quarter can be treated without having to worry about blending with the roof, love it when cars are designed that way.
 
You did a fantastic job. I have always wanted to be able to paint a panel myself. The touch up systems are just horrific on certain pearls and Metallics.

Great save and I Happen to really like the Element layout. Rear reverse doors and easily configurable interior. Awd. Perfect.

Yeah I attempted the touchup paint once. Had to layer it 7-8 times to fill the scratch. It was on a Toyota Tacoma. I then went to level it out with some 1500 on a stir stick and cut through the clear. The clear on those trucks is very thin. I don't do touchups like that anymore.
 
I wish I knew a good local painter. They did a terrible job on my rear hatch (paint is chipping off after just over a year).

Was it an insurance job or did you pay out of pocket? Most places warranty their work. A lot of them do it for as long as you own the vehicle.

Anybody can learn to do it. It's not that hard. Having good equipment does make a difference though. I mainly do this stuff to help friends and neighbors out. Most body shops don't want to paint anything unless insurance is paying for it anyway. They make a ton of money off of those jobs so when they do price something a customer pays cash for it will normally be really expensive. I got kinda lucky because my brother in law works for sherwin williams house paint store. Extended family gets 40% off of house and automotive paints which extends to me. I know on the highest end paint for this color it was around $350/qt but my price would have been a little over $200. I normally don't charge a whole lot to do this stuff compared to a body shop so by getting this stuff cheaper I am able to make a little more.
