2004 Lamborghini Murcielago Correction

I did up my entire car, took me two weekends. The problem is, I get a few swirl marks here and there and I don't want to strip everything down off the car to remove a very small amount of swirls.

My question is: do any of you just use swirl mark remover over the affected area and leave the rest of the car alone, aside from a layer of wax or something?

In the past, after like 14 hours of work, the next week I would strip it ALL off and start all over again, I didn't mind for the first 3 months I had the car but I only have my car on the weekends and I am spending 14-18 hours on it in those two days, I want to drive the darn thing :bounce

!!!!

I have an idea, will a cleaner wax from 3M work?

Will it remove my Klasse

Will it remove the swirls temp or permanet?

Any ideas better than this one?

Does 3M cleaner wax have a shine that is as nice compared to Blitz?

The swirls are probably in the polish / wax layer. Z5 does a great job filling these in so that stripping and rework is not necessary. I would live with them, and go over the whole car when it is time to start over.

Give me a little info on this Z5... I am sure there is a way around it with Klasse, you can't tell me Zanio is the only one that makes a product like that.

If I go over with another layer of Klasse Glaze, it'll fix it right?

Joed,

Just remove the swirls with your favorite swirl remover technique and product then, recoat with the KLASSE products. Do one section a weekend until satisifed.

Z5 is not a polish that removes previous layers of Zaino. It is more of a filler that hides swirls. It does a great job of hiding swirls induced into previous layers of Zaino.

I do not think it would work well with the Klasse system you are using. But experiment for us and post results!

Perfectly OK to touch up a single area - I do it all the time. I am not a big fan of cleaner/waxes - just seem like a compromise to me. stick with completely non-abrasive waxes and use the right cleaner(s) for the job at hand.

Among SMR's the 3M and the new meguiar's SM 2.0 get pretty good reviews, and for spot treatment of slightly deeper scratches I have fallen in love with Meguiar's Scratch-X.

IMHO, Zaino Z5 doesn't hide swirls worth a damn. at least, not with 2 coats, and I don't have patience for more than that. If you want proof, see http://pages.sbcglobal.net/gheumann/zaino_test/ There are much better products that cost less for this purpose.

P.S. - I know I mention meguiar's products a lot around here. Please understand that this is only because it has become my brand of choice - when I find something within it that works I use it. There are lots of other good products out there, but I will never recommend something I haven't personally tried. I don't work for Meguiar's and I don't owe them anything - they have lots of my money! I am open to anything that works better for a task, from any vendor, at any time. And there are Meguiar's products I've used and do NOT like - and I've said so here.

I was told that either the All In One or the Klasse Glaze will hide minor swirls, which is what I have.

So I am correct, I can apply another layer of Glaze and that will hide the swirls while enhancing the gloss right?

I would like to try the Z-5 but I need to order and wait for it, don't have the patience for that.

I wonder how Klasse AIO, then Klasse Glaze, then Meguiars Glaze then Blitz would look

If you use z5, you should strip klasse off your paint and start fresh. It is beneficial to get your paint looking great before you start. If you have any swirls, remove them with an abrasive product like swirl mark removal.

Z5 will fill in marring and very minor swirls in stages. If might take a few coats. It will not fill in deep swirls or fill in swirls from a neglected paint finish like some people have tested it on. They should of been removed first with an abrasive product.

Here is the best part, after the car is zainoed, some additional swirls could develop from improper washing and toweling, etc, etc. Most likely, these swirls are not in the clear coat but in the zaino polish layer. Using Z5 on this is very effective. Many users on the board have had great results using z5 in this instance and keeping the car finish swirl free.

Sal gets your orders out in the same day.....it really doesn't take that long to order.

Hope this helps.

CarGuy -

So your saying go with Meguiars swirl mark remover 2.0? I saw it in the stores.

Your saying it will not harm my Klasse but it is only a temp fix correct?

Hey Carguy,

Have you tried 3M's Perfect-It 2 Rubbing Compound? I am currently using it for larger, deeper scratches and was curious to see if you or anyone else has compared it to this Meguiars Scratch-X you're referring to.

Joed - I don't have a lot of experience with Klasse, but I've got to believe if you use any abrasive product, it is going to remove any wax/protectant. Just wax over it. But yes, I like the MG SM 2.0.

gs3_4me: haven't tried it - but if I wanted something more aggressive than FI II finishing compund that is what I would buy. I trust 3M for compounds. Scratch-X is less abrasive, I think - but it is combined with fillers and hiders - it seems to work well to hide scratches. I don't have enough long term experience with it to know if they show back up badly later.

In that case I will just apply another layer of Klasse Glaze and add two layers of Blitz, I am sure that will keep me happy until I re-do the entire car.

This car was re-sprayed almost entirely and the repair and paintwork were pretty good, however the sanding and buffing was not so good(understatement).

Many hours went into this car(over 40) as the interior did not need much and we did not have to thorougly clean the wheels and tires as new wheels are being mounted.

This car was also updated with a Premier carbonfiber body kit(which was shall I say "challenging" to remove the sand scratches from).

During the wash.

There was no messing around as I pulled out the "Black Edge Wool" to level the finish right.

Removed the plastic rear grills to get into even tighter spots on the body kit.

With the side scoops open it was time to polish the PITA area behind the "B" pillar, working with the new Griots polisher which is the "Poo" BTW.

All done, interior pics without LSP as the owner is having Premier wrapp the entire car with a satin film they just added even though we spent FOREVER getting the finish sorted out, but I have the pics from this job to show the finish before that happens.
