Well yesterday I had the opportunity to detail a 2004 Dark Blue Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Commemorative Edition. He had the rear quarter pannel repainted recently and the whole car was covered in rotary tracks and moderate swirls. I didn't know what I was getting my self into. I first did a test panel with Meg #80 with Propel II orange pad as the owner wanted me too, even though I knew it wans't going to do anything to the swirls. So the owner left me alone to do my thing. I did a test spot with hi-temp extreme cut with orange pad but no luck. So on my last attempt with the pc, I changed to Propel II yellow pad with hi-temp extreme cut. It did help with removing the rotary tracks but not the swirls. Boy the clear on the Covette is ROCK HARD! :hairpull Since the pc wasn't cutting it, I stepped up to the rotary with orange pad and hi-temp extreme cut. Finally I was making some progress. After I got done we spent a good while just talking and taking pictures. Very cool guy, his whole family drives sports cars. His mother has a 04 Convertible Corvette, father has a Classic Corvette and a hot rod and his fiance has a new Nissan 350Z. Hopefully I'll be able to do the other vetties. Btw I wanna thanks Patrick at excel detail for always letting me stop by when I'm low on supplies. Anyways enjoy the pics. :woot:

Excellent work! I have seen a few of those Lemans blue vettes in person and many pics, but never one that looked that good.

The hood is CF on that car, did you notice any difference when polishing the hood or the rest of the car?

I have also seen that car in the same car in person (we had one at my dealership that I work for) The hood I believe is fiberglass just like the rest of the body

The 2004 Commemorative Edition Z06 features a new hood using carbon fiber material, and exterior graphics and color designed in concert with the new-look C5-R that will go for a landmark third consecutive Le Mans GTS class championship. The carbon fiber hood represents the first time this advanced material has been used as original equipment for a painted exterior panel on a North American-produced vehicle. The unique Le Mans Blue paint with a silver and red center graphic will appear on the race car only at Le Mans 2003 and only on the road on a limited number of 2004 Commemorative Edition Z06s.

Thanks for the comments guys.

The hood is made out of carbon fiber, opening the hood it was extreamly light and flimsy. If the clear on the body wasn't hard enough, the hood for some reason was harder. I would say on the hood I got 80~85% of the defects and swirls out and 90% for the body. Total time was around 8 hours.

another gx4-Yes thats my RX-8 :chuckle: and I'm on rx8club.com

One quick question for you guys, do you have any idea why the clear on the vetties are so hard? I found it to be harder than the Audi clear...
