Thanks to Brandt for letting Bret and I use his place again. Both Bret and I would of been dead in this heat if we did not have the use of your AC'd garage again today. The lift does not hurt either. :)

The owner picked up this car a few months ago, contacted me back then and we finally got together to give it our best.

This one just about kicked us right in the balz. :wall

All of the horz surfaces had horrible deep water etching.

How deep, I'll let you be the judge of that.

Before

From here just an average looking 03 Z06 with 22k miles on it:

img1535sp2.jpg

So its a little dirty:

img1537vk2.jpg

Then the fun starts:

img1542ku4.jpg

img1551vq1.jpg

img1554ax3.jpg

The hood is looking really nice.

During:

Bret just chillin in his flip flops while he foams the car down with Z7.

img1574hh1.jpg

img1578jk8.jpg

While the foam was doing its thing, I sprayed down the wheels with PB SnR and let it dwell.

While Bret cleaned the tires and wells with some AM 777 APC 1:4, I apply some PB bug squash to the front and lower areas behind the wells. I then scrubbed those areas with a bug sponge. We rinsed everything off and then Bret washed the car with the 2 bucket method while I rolled the car back and applied more of the SnR to the wheels that where covered by the calipers. We wanted the barrels of the wheels 100% clean. I started rinsing off the car and the wheels.

After that we clayed the car with Z6 and Zaino Z-18 clay. We where suprised by the lack of bonded contaminants.

So we got the car in the garage, fired up the AC and lined up the car on the lift.

We started on an easy area to see what the side panels would require. Looks like a edge yellow wool pad/Presta 1500/ 1500 metabo followed by 106ff/white LC CCS pad/hitachi 1500 would work very well.

Please pardon my crappy picture taking ability. I have my new canon rebel XT and it really shows that I suck at taking pics.

Maybe you can see that the right side is the after polishing side and the left side is not as clear. I know I am reaching here. :bat

Close up of the polished area:

It seemed like the best pics where at ISO 100, White balance set at fluorescent. Using a tripod and manual focus with most of the overhead lights off. If anybody can suggest a better setting, I am listening. :D

Then it came time to try a section on the rear deck lid. Again all horz panels where covered w/ deep water etching.

I got out the Edge black heavy cut wool and the Strada 1000 cut polish. I figured a pass or two and we would be good to go. After 2 passes at 1500, Bret followed with 106ff and a white CCS pad.

Again out of the 20+ pics I took of the area, here where the best:

Bret polishing with 106ff and a white CCS pad, you can see the before on the left of the tape:

img1633kl4.jpg

Decent reduction...

img1634sr5.jpg

but we are not happy to still see the remainder of the deep etching:

img1637ff0.jpg

So I ended up making 3 passes in the center of the rear deck with the black wool/strada1000/metabo at speeds of 1500,1700 and then at 2000. I still could not remove all of the deep etching. :sosad :nervous2: :bat

I followed with green wool/P1500/metabo 1500 and then Bret followed with 106ff/white CCS/hitachi 1500. All of the horz panels got this 3 step polishing:

black wool/strada1000/metabo 1800-2000

green wool/P1500/metabo 1500

106ff/white CCS/hitachi 1500

We where both frustrated, but wetsanding would be the only process that would kill off this deep etching.

During all the polishing, Bret got the interior clean.

Interior process was:

Vac

Wipedown all plastics with 1Z CP

Seats done with Z9/10

Glass cleaned with sprayway

Bret got the wheels done with ZAIO and the tires got Z-16.

After 50/50 wipedown:

Bret tried out some the "black wow" on the windshield pan and rear brake ducts:

Agreed! Amazing job! Can't wait to get my rotary to be able to get some real correction done!

Update us on the durability of Black Wow if you can.

Excellent work as always! Really love those after shots, just beautiful! :bow

I've done a couple rough C5s so I have a good idea what y'all went through. :nervous2:

Thanks John! I want one for myself, but not enough clearance in the garage.

Thanks Greg! I think a lift will suit us all very well.

Thanks Dogg! I know I could not detail without a rotary.

Thanks Scott! This one reminded us on how much of a PITA vettes can be.

Amazing work guys! :bow:bow:bow

Those vettes are never fun!

I really need to see if the local bodyshop carries Presta products. :wall There goes all my $$$ again.

Thanks John! I really like how the presta polishes work with wool.

Thanks Sean!

Thanks Wade! We got to get together sometime soon.

Thanks Kavel!

Thanks Pat! 1:1 on the bug squash. I am about out so may try some APC in the future and see how that does.

Thanks Josh! I hate when you can't get them 100%, but sometimes you just got to take your beatings like a man. :chuckle:

great work guys. i,ve got an 03 coupe myself. i've used that black wow and i love it, has decent dorability to,i use it sparingly. again nice turnaround on the vet. you guys do nice work.:goodjob

Outstanding work, you did everything you could and it shows.

Post a durability on the BLACK WOW. I like the stuff, but nice to know how it works in more humid areas.

Cheers,
