2003 Blue Mustang GT

I bought my 01 Stratus R/T Coupe with a few thousand miles on it. I noticed, though, that the previous owner must've smoked in the car a few times. There are little black dots on the left side of the drivers' side seat as well as the left side bolster of the passengers' seat. I've used leather cleaner and polish but nothing is removing them. Are the leather seats damaged from the ashes of the cigarettes or is there something I can do? There are also black dots on the drivers' side door panel near the window.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

sorry to say but, that does sound like little burns in the leather and in the plastic around the window:(..................

<span style='font-size: 8px;'>(*&^%$^%$#%#(*&^&^ .....smokers

Thanks for the replies...

I can't feel them with my fingers...nor can I scratch them off. Is there possibly a way to re-dye those areas?

They're not real noticable to anyone else...just to myself...and that's a big deal. :scared

Sounds like hot ash singed the finish on the leather without actually burning any leather. I'm not sure if your leather is clear-coated, but probably is.

I would recommend contacting www.leatherique.com and see what they can do for you. Many Autopians speak highly of their products. :xyxthumbs

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Without seeing them have you tried a leather cleaner and using a brush?

It seems if they burned there would be indentations.

GOt any pics???

I haven't tried using a brush. They aren't indentations which is why I still have some hope of removing them.

There were similar black spots on the exterior of the car right outside the drivers' side window which I removed using a clay bar...I assume they were from the idiot's cigarette as he stuck it out the window.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post them.

Thanks!

This job came to me from a forum member in Missouri whose step-son attends college here in Tampa. He PM'ed me one night and asked me if I would be interested in detailing his step-son's Mustang. We set the appointment for a 2 step exterior only. The car had been totally repainted about a year and half ago.

After a good wash I clayed the entire car and removed the wheels to clean them inside and out. I then sealed the inside and outside of the wheels with Meguair?s #21 sealant. This is my go to sealant for wheels. I have found it leaves a nice finish on all types of wheels.

The studs where a bit dry and rusty so in the spirit of customer service I coated the studs with Never Seize before bolting them back on.

For correction I used Menzena Power Finish on a Tangerine pad using the Flex 3401. Tighter areas I used a Porter Cable 7424. An IPA wipe down was done after each pass.

The paint was pretty decent. Only some minor swirls.

The trunk lid needed a more aggressive approach. I bumped it up a bit with an orange pad and Menzena Super Intensive Polish again on the Flex.

I have worked on a few mustangs in the past and remembered that the headlights could be removed very easy. My process for the headlights was 105 on an orange pad followed by 205 on a white pad using my Porter Cable.

Step number 2 was 3M Ultrafina via the Mikita with 5.5 inch crimson pads to add a bit more gloss.

LSP was 2 coats of Blackfire WD with some additional polycharger. Sorry no sun shots unfortunately, the customer had to pick up the car that night.

I want to thank Jack for hosting this forum. With TID this job would not have happened.

This is my son's car. He is much smarter than me and instead of freezing his butt off up here in Missouri he goes to school year round down in Tampa at USF. I havent seen the car in over a year but knew that since it really hadn't been touched since repaint in July '09 other than general hand washes that it was more than due for some TLC. Chad was great to work with and made scheduling this little project a breeze. My son was absolutely thrilled with the results! I appreciate this forum and many thanks to Chad for posting this thread so I could see the process and finished job via the good old internet. My son is in a large fraternity so hopefully he can steer some more business Chad's way. I know for a fact he's got a customer in me for the rest of my son's stay in FLA and I look forward to having Chad do any future "maintenance" detailing that is suggested.

Super job Chad and many thanks again!!
